Can you use any sharpener on this pencil?

I haven't sharpened it yet. But I will be using a sharpener from Maybelline.

how do you get the liner to push up out of the case?

It doesn't push up you sharpen it just like you would any pencil, in the beginning I couldn't figure it out either then my daughter told me to sharpen it like any pencil the material around it sharpens better than the old ones, I love it! Just use a regular cosmetic sharpener.
