The box was pretty heavy, around 80lbs I think. The box was probably 6 foot by 2 foot

Yes. The instructions were very detailed.

Is it possible to adjust the cabinet to accommodate a floor molding that sticks out 1" inch ? By carving out a small section of the bottom?

I ran into the same issue. The reason I didn't try the cut our method is because I would also have to raise the back up high enough so it also is above the 6" baseboard. Instead I added a 1" filler ( 1/2" quarter round and 1/2" baseboard) at the lag bolt locations to ensure a solid wall connection. For the 3 L brackets at the top I did not have fillers, they extended over the gap to directly attach to the wall.

Why does the descriptive title of this product state "bed frame wall mount" if you can't mount it to the wall?

To function, you need to build the cabinet frame this kit connects to. That frame must connect to the wall. The wall connection hardware is provided. They also provide instructions for building the frame. I found it easy, but have also done many similar diy projects before.
