Beautiful and Functional
This is a very pretty and well-made umbrella. Bought it to match a Renaissance Faire outfit. Haven't used it in the rain yet, but it certainly looks and feels waterproof. The colors are so pretty and the design is bright and clear. Yes, it does have a very strong smell because of the waterproofing, but keeping it open in the garage for a couple of days has taken care of most of it.

Totally thrilled with this purchase.
I was skeptical based on other reviews I had read, but based on the price, I thought I'd go for it. I must say this surpassed all expectations! This is a gorgeous art piece. I only wish I could order more but I got the last one :( The odor is minimal (and expected since it is OIL BASED). The color is beautiful. Just gorgeous. Opened easily. No problems.

Happily surprised!
I was hesitant to buy this because of the negative reviews complaining about problems with ripping and the smell. Finally decided I liked how it looked enough to purchase and was prepared to do the heat source tip to get it to open cleanly, and let it air out to deal with the smell. When it arrived, though, my parasol did not have the sane problems. It opened immediately with just careful maneuvering. The smell was present, but not overwhelming (kind of smells like the inside of a Walmart TBH). It's pretty, well lacquered, and seems protective enough for me to carry it outside as shade during the summer, which is exactly what I wanted. I'm personally happy with the product I got. Let that persuade you to buy this if you're on the fence like I was.

Exotic, well-made, just a short learning curve
I got this umbrella to hang upside down as a pendant lamp shade. It adds exotic elegance to the room. I put one of those mult-color lightbulbs inside it, the kind GE makes. Some people mentioned difficulty in unfolding the umbrella. I was uncharacteristically patient with it, and laid it by a heat source for an hour to "soften" the oil and paper. This made it much easier to open. I very gingerly teased the rods and paper out from the folded/packaged condition, and gradually opened it fully over about an hour. Slow and steady won the race. No tearing at all. Give it a few hours to off-gas and you're set. There is a latch in the handle rod that locks the umbrella in the fully open position.

Love it so pretty
Great condition and super pretty, however like the other reviews I'll be airing it out for awhile, definitely a funky smell. Update after a few days open airing out tge smell completely went away and smells lile an oil painting now lol

Broken handle
Looks like it could be a nice parasol, however, it arrived with the handle broken off. Cannot even see if it will open.

Lovely!
Happy with this purchase. It does have an Oder however it was not over powering and faded after a few days. Used it outside in the rain and even provides a little protection from the sun.

Hope you’re into vintage…
The paper has been so heavily lacquered ((or whatever they sealed the paper with)) makes it look translucent and yellowed and it gives off a strong smell. The spokes on the interior are a flexible plastic that I feel is not as nice as the typical bamboo spokes. And they capped to tip of the umbrella with a bright red plastic cap which clashes horribly with the blue flowers. It’s pretty enough, especially if you spend a couple bucks to paint the cap blue to match, but leave it open outside for an afternoon before you use it… otherwise you might get high off the smell…
