Be A Plant-Based Woman Warrior: Live Fierce, Stay Bold, Eat Delicious: A Cookbook Review: Delightful, SOS-free, comprehensive vegan cookbook - This book is packed with everyday and special occasion recipes, gorgeous pictures, some teaching and enjoyable little personal narratives about many of the recipes. It is an excellent value. I have Jane and Ann’s first book (Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease Cookbook.) This book - Be a Plant-based Woman Warrior - is a definite upgrade in several ways. It is larger (bigger pages, more pages, many more recipes) and the photographs are improved as well. Recipes in the first book were limited because they never included nuts whereas this book includes nuts when appropriate. The desert recipes are more appealing and main stream (Outta Sight Brownies and Chocolate cake with German Chocolate Frosting, rather than Kale Cake with Blueberry Frosting.) It is hard for me to express how much I like the photos but I will try. There is nice variation in that some are close ups of a specific recipe and others are several related recipes on one page. The picture of slices of 8 cakes with 8 scrumptious looking frostings is just delightful. I let my grandchildren look at the pictures and chose what they would like to make with me. Levi picked Peach Melba and it was delicious. Hannah picked brownies, Lemon Pie squares and Zander Tart - and all were a big hit at our weekly Sunday family lunch. Other recipes we now use regularly are from the Dinner Feasts section. We rotate between Taco Bar, Pasta Tonight Bowl and Ramen Bowls. All three work well for a crowd, can be prepped in advance and are fairly budget friendly. If you are undecided about purchasing, consider trying what I did. First, I checked it out from my local library. After surveying the entire book, and making Three Goddesses Salad, I knew it was a good match for how I like to cook and eat, so I purchased it. I splurged for the spiral bound version because I expect to use this book regularly, for years. I can easily understand why it is now also a New York Times bestseller. 7/27/2025. It is over two years later and I am still using this book! Ann Esselstyn just celebrated her 90th birthday and she is beyond a walking advertisement for this type of cooking! She looks fabulous!! For the past two years I have used their idea of a Taco Bar to co:host a monthly family dinner for about 40 people at my church as part of our Kids Quest Catechism class. Very well received and not that difficult or expensive. Review: Beautiful, light, tasty recipes - For an oil free, minimal salt, low sugar cookbook, I am very pleased. I love that they only use whole food ingredients that are easy to find. There are many gluten free options. The photography is stunning. Most recipes are pretty quick. I've made over a dozen recipes and my husband loved them all. I've been pleased with most of them, even some I was initially skeptical about (strawberry dressing), though I do need to add more salt sometimes for our palates. The sandwich section is so fun. I'm excited to try the desserts, many of which use oat flour and one uses oatmeal in other creative ways. The blueberry corn muffins actually taste like muffins and not cupcakes. I was skeptical the millet oat "everything bagel"-flavored crackers wouldn't congeal or firm up, but they are amazing and I can't wait to share with my (very non-vegan) family. There is an extensive sauce and dressing section to help dress up salads, bowls, etc. I would not necessarily serve all of these recipes to a vegan-skeptic, but love them for our everyday home cooking. Tip: Many of the dressings and sandwiches only use a few TB of hummus. I make a big batch and then freeze small blobs on wax paper. Once they are hard, i put them in a bag and remove as needed for the other recipes, much like you can do for tomato paste. You can defrost in fridge overnight or in the microwave.

Great recipes
I don’t think I’ll ever need another cookbook. Interesting and upbeat delivery, this book is fun to just read, even better if you put together one of these wonderful recipes.

Beautiful Plant-Based Cookbook!!!
I just opened the package and can't believe how nice this cookbook is. I bought the spiral bound book, and it's well worth it! There are pics with every recipe, and the recipes aren't complicated and look delicious. This is, by far, the best plant-based cookbook I have ever purchased. There are pages and pages of helpful information. Whether you are plant based already, looking to start a plant-based diet, or simply wanting to add more fruits and veggies in your diet, this cookbook is for you. Thank you, Ann and Jane!!

Not Just For Women
I’m a 72 year old male, x-runner. I have been a fan of Dr. Esselstyn for years. His book on reversing heart disease has been transformative. I’ve lost 30 lbs, reduced my A1C from 6.4 to 5.2 and reduced my cholesterol from 240 to 147 following his dietary guidelines. I have been a whole foods plant based survivor for 4 years, I’ve also been a huge fan of Jane and Ann Esselstyns on their YouTube channel. This book is outstanding. From the sauces, amazing nutrient dense salads to the entrees, this book knocks it out of the park. It provides substitutes for heart-healthy friendliness. I particularly love Ann’s warrior oat breakfast, Apple Flax Flapjacks and Rock-Around-The-Clock grill wraps. Their Rainbow bean slaw is yummy as are many of their salads. For you tofu enthusiasts, they have a nice array of delicious recipes. My favorite is the sweet potato and cashew ricotta lasagna. The list of favorites is endless plus the book comes spiral bound which makes managing in the kitchen easy. This is a must addition to anyone’s plant based recipes library.

Fun Cookbook From Plant-Based Legends
Many great recipes can be found in this cookbook. The index is not very helpful because the recipes all have cutesy names, which makes it difficult to find a recipe by its main ingredient. Read the ingredient lists carefully and check for missing items. For example, the German Chocolate Frosting on page 308 is missing 6 tablespoons of cocoa powder. Some of the desserts rely heavily on copious amounts of maple syrup, which surprised me a little, coming from heart-healthy superstars. This is a great cookbook for a large family. If you are cooking for one or two, be sure to check the serving sizes, or you could be eating the same salad for a week. Many people seem to love the spiral-bound version, but my standard book lays very well on a table and is easy to read. The font size is nice, and many of the recipes have pictures. The roasted veggie recipes are some of my favorites. One definite benefit is that the authors have made many of these recipes available on YouTube. It's nice to have a tutorial. I'm a big fan of the Esselstyn family, and I'm enjoying trying the recipes in this cookbook.

Top plant based cookbook on my shelf
After checking this book out at the library, I knew I had to own it rather than take photos of all the recipes! There are so many delicious and easy recipes in this book. The apple pancakes are a big hit, soups, bowls, salads, dressings. Too many to list! I also love the introduction and backstory of the authors. I’ve checked out a few of their other cookbooks (Engine 2 is another great one). It’s so nice having a variety of plant based meals I can prepare.
