Q: What paint kit do i need for it?

It depends on what grade are finish you want , if it's been in combat or just on parade! Testers is OK but there are many different pants available so you have to decide? The better quality stuff is pricey! Just for the basic paints it will cost more than 30 bucks! But it will look better if you fallow the directions carefully, and check on books on how to pant models! And there are military model magazines, try Barnes and Noble! Or hobby stores! But remember to enjoy the experience! Don't get up tight about making it perfect! There can be happy accidents,

Q: Is this model fragile? My son loves tanks and wants to play with the models he builds. We've had a problem with tank tracks breaking, etc

Yes extremely fragile. Many small parts will break off. They are not toys but display pieces. How old is your son? There are many die cast or pre assembled tanks available that are meant to be played with or can take a bit of rough housing. A kit that is made to be motorized and Tamiya makes several have tracks meant to move and can be alot of fun running over the carpet.
