I bought this because my flute teacher recommended it, and i dont regret buying it. Theres great exorcises in here and its genuinely helped me improve so much.

This is the most comprehensive and varied set of techniques instruction and exercises ever put together into a single volume. And its spiral binding makes it easy to work with. This book is a master class in print, fine tuning every aspect of flute playing. I cannot imagine ever getting through every page. I will select what attracts me to work on during each focus and phase of my development. The book (and the student's time and effort investment) is actually twelve times what it appears, because a guideline for using the book is to play each exercise in all twelve keys. Ideally, I would think that that means mentally transposing on the fly (if you can). I would like it even better if it included chord names above each of the arpeggios. As a former folk guitarist, I can hear named chord progressions in my head, but it is difficult for me to translate that to feeling arpeggio progressions in my head without the notes sustaining as they would on a guitar. I remember penciling in the chord names for Bach's Prelude No. 1 BWV 846, after which the whole piece flowed better for me because I was hearing the chords as I played the arpeggios. That is not a critique of this book specifically, but of all other flute exercise books that I have seen. Or, more accurately, a critique of myself for not having previously developed my ear in this particular aspect playing monophonic instruments. This Trevor Wye book definitely gets five stars!

I got this because a flute teacher on line described it as the holy grail of flute method books. I have been practicing many of the excerices and have made progress. I am happy with it.

I was a serious flutist through high school, college, army band, and numerous gigs after that. Unfortunately, life got in the way and I haven't played for many years. I've been asked to play for a special event in June, and was disheartened at my miserable tone quality, technique, you name it. I purchased this book and am following the regime/instructions in Book 1, and my tone is coming back. I'm practicing daily and praying that I'll be proficient enough to perform in June. I'm not sure where I would be if I hadn't found this practice guide. it's better than anything I used in the past.

I have been trying to teach myself to play the flute. I learned all the notes, fingerings and can play a few songs. However, I needed something more. I so far have been very impressed with this book. Unlike all other books I have picked up, this book not only gives me practice music, but it also includes explanations as to why we need to do it and what skills or techniques will be improved. I will point out, I have no professional guidance. This book uses a lot of music terms. A huge plus as I can get on Google and YouTube and learn more about what I am learning. Together with the internet, I have seen my music improve drastically. I have been looking for a book like this for over a year. I am very happy with this purchase.

It is good I just I would have liked it more if the pages were colored

Primero indicar que el libro llegó en perfectas condiciones y 2 semanas antes de lo indicado, lo cual se agradece enormemente. La calidad del libro en si es excelente, copia original, tapa blanda resistente, anillado y la calidad de impresión es excelente. ¡¡Es lo que esperaba, lo recomiendo 100%!!! Recomiendo leer primero antes de realizar los ejercicios, al leer el primer libro se entiende la dinámica del libro completo (cada libro esta relacionado con los demás) . (Chile)

Wye's practice book covers everything I can think of, even more, going as far as to cover circular breathing, 4th octave register and so on (in the 6th book), which I've never seen covered in books. Each book includes step-by-step recommandations on how to study effectively, many different exercises, thorough explanations of the material, some relevant examples on when to apply the material covered and trouble shooting tips after each section. The only thing I would have liked to see included would maybe have been some downloadable play-along tracks and possibly a detachable fingering chart, since the book takes for granted that you are already familiar with the first 3 octaves (but you can still find those charts online if absolutely necessary). I would recommand this book to anyone who wishes to make quick progress and has a good grasp of the very basics of the flute. Awesome book!

Man kommt schnell weiter, kann an all seinen Schwächen explizit arbeiten und muss bei seinen Texten oft genug schmunzeln! Ich denke in diesem Buch ist für jeden etwas dabei, vom absoluten Anfänger bis zum (Fast-)Profi. Es gibt meiner Meinung nur einen Nachteil: Zu viele Verweise auf andere Bücher, die man dann auch unbedingt willl... ;)

There is no Cd… very disappointed

Great book, but not for beginners. I'm still struggling my way through this. However it does come with a cd to help you listen to different tones etc. Very good instruction. I would recommend to anyone who is serious about playing the classical flute.
