Great design. Great fit and finish. Great seat.
Feels a bit odd to write a review of a toilet seat, but given the importance of a toilet seat to any man or woman, perhaps it's of paramount importance to provide a proper review. The first thing I noticed about this seat is that it has four contact points, or bumpers which come in contact with the bowl. This is a big deal. Why? If you have a seat with only two of these bumpers, there will be flex in the seat, which can lead to a crack, uncomfortable pinching, and the need to replace the seat. Having four, as this seat does is a big deal. The second thing I noticed about this seat is it's heavy. I would expect a wood seat to be heavy and this one is. The third thing is the hinges are made from heavy duty (excuse the pun) plastic. Many seats these days offer chromed metal hinges. After several months or years, the moisture from evaporation will cause most metal hinges to corrode. That won't happen with this seat. Overall, this is a great seat. The commode it's installed on is an older round toilet, and this seat fits it perfectly. Most big box home centers do not carry black seats, so Amazon was a great source for hard to find items like this. Of course the purchase, notification, shipping and delivery from Amazon is top notch as you've come to expect. Enjoy your special time with this seat.

Excellent product, outstanding customer service
I wanted to upgrade the disappointing flimsy plastic seat and lid that came with the toilet in my apartment, and was really happy with this replacement. It is sturdy, well-made, and has a beautiful glossy black finish. Installation was very easy and took less than five minutes. It shows smudges and cleaning product residue more than the white plastic, but that's no big deal. I love the black accent this gives my bathroom. Highly recommend.

The "bolts" that secure the seat to the toilet are good, but more importantly
Toilet seats aren't something I purchase often, but this one is very solid. You want solid in your toilet seat. You don't want something that shifts or bends. They've hidden the "crack" where the wood is glued to each other (at least, presumably this isn't one solid piece of wood), very well. The "bolts" that secure the seat to the toilet are good, but more importantly, so are the "locks". My old seat had the lock covers that shifted side to side, and repeated sitting on that seat would move those covers (and, subsequently, the locks) just by virtue of frequent torque, that the constant application of weight provided. This sea has locks/covers that go up and down, and so don't have that sideways motion that is so easily susceptible to said torque. Such a seemingly benign design decision makes a world of difference between this and my old toilet seat.

Happy With Purchase BUT
Overall I'm pretty happy with this item with one exception. The seat appears to be well made, durable, fits well and gives me exactly the look that I was after. However, several commenters have indicated that they were less than happy with the finish on top of the lid and I feel the same way. If you look closely or especially when the light is hitting it at a certain angle, you can see the imperfections or "waviness" in the wood.....quality control in this area is lacking. The seat, especially the top, should have been sanded smooth before painting - especially since it's to be painted black which will really show any imperfections. I would have returned it for another unit (hopefully they're not all that way) but it's tolerable and still looks good.....not worth the effort for what I paid for it.

Beware the distance in between the hinges!
Bit difficult to rate this one. The quality of the product itself is great, looks beautiful, feels solid and is very comfortable to sit on. But the hinges turned out to be in the wrong location - the distance/length between them was too short to fit the holes on our toilet. Luckily the hinges are only screwed into the wood, so after a bit of fiddling around we managed to unscrew them and re-screw them back on in the required positions. We also had to modify the pegs from our toilet in order to fit the holes on the hinges, since our pegs were rather large and the holes are quite small. So it still required quite a bit of DIY work, and now you can see the leftover screw-holes in the wood, which is slightly annoying. But ultimately we managed to get it on and now our toilet certainly looks much classier!

Couldn't be more pleased
For almost 30 years I'd had a black toliet with an acrylic black toliet seat with white sea shells and gold foil bits embedded in it. Loved the seat my parents bought in Fl., other than the hinges of the seat were drastically showing their age as well the seat bumper pads and the underseat always looked dirty. I couldn't find anything to fix that seat. I couldn't find one in black any longer. I hated the thought of giving the fancy seat up as it was sturdy and had been pretty. I searched high and low for a like replacement and couldn't find one. So , next I resorted to a plain shiny black one. This new seat not only has good sturdiness to it, but the hinges will last forever and the whole thing is pretty. One drawback is that I have a low toliet and the when the top of the seat is upright it bangs against the tank top. So far it hasn't been a problem. If I see it wearing I may have to find black little bumpers of some kind. But right now it was worth hunting around and finally ordering through Amazon. And I had it in no time. I'm very pleased.

Defective!
Everything is fine except the left hand lid screws are stripped! Therefore the lid will not stay up and looks broken since it is very tilted. Now I have to use up time and energy to ship it back. Frustrated! How long to replace this broken lid? Christine

Solid, worth the price
Have had for about 6 months and very solid, comfortable, looks good in the bathroom. My handyman installed it in minutes.
