Stuff Every Cook Should Know (Stuff You Should Know) Hardcover – October 25, 2016

This book is pretty handy! I was always really into cooking, but when I had brain surgery, I had to learn it all over again. All the culinary texts books I had were too advanced me me to just jump right into. I keep this book by my stove, because my memory has gotten to be lacking. I love how simple and clear cut this book is without talking down as if you are mentally lacking. This would be a great gift for a young adult with an interest in cooking, a teen going away to college, or anyone who has moved away from home, and suddenly realizes that they have no idea what they are doing. Even if you know a lot, it's still very handy to have around!

Even a minimally experienced home cook will find 95%+ of the content in this booklet obvious, intuitive or barely helpful. Most topics are dealt with in a couple of sentences tops, skimming the surface and not providing the kind of bite-sized but useful insights that an experienced cook can offer a novice by going just a little beyond the obvious. I was hoping for a sort of farmer's almanac reference of cooking temperatures, conversions and useful go-to combinations. Anyone who has successfully cooked at least a dozen meals in their life will find this a wasted 15 minutes of reading and ten bucks. If you have never stepped foot in a kitchen or have just learned how to read, this may be a useful starting point.

I got this as a gift for a young friend of mine who is starting to be allowed to help out in the kitchen. She was ecstatic, and couldn't wait to use all the tips and tricks she found.

Great little book for anyone that cooks - from the beginners to those who have cooked for years as you can always learn something new. A fun book for anyone who cooks.

I thought this was far less basic (like BASIC, BASIC) than it actually is. Guess I'll gift it forward?

I am giving this book 4 stars with the HUGE caveat that it is very, very basic. I mean, the kind of basic that I'd give to my 13 year old, though she already knows how to measure flour. I bought it for myself and found exactly ONE useful tidbit in the whole book (a list of "standard" flavor pairings), but otherwise it's pretty useless to anyone who's done even a little bit of cooking. I'll save and give to the next clueless college kid I find. For what it is, it's a good resource - but for most anyone who kkows even a little, it's useless.

So impressed with this book very inspirational to those like myself with near non existent knowledge of the kitchen and its uses. I got the kindle version so I can dip in as and when. I highly recommend this product

My only dislike for this book is it's size. It's about 5 inches by 3.5 inches. The text is easy to read with the book size, but ideally it would have been nice to be a tad larger. Overall however, it's not too big of an issue. As for the contents of the book, it's really rather informative. I have very basic/low levels of knowledge and experience in cooking, so all the little tips and advice that are given is extremely helpful for someone who doesn't know all the nuisances of cooking. It really is a book about stuff every book should know. While it won't make one a master cook, it is definitely most helpful for someone starting out. Definitely recommend this

Great book, was expecting it to be a bit longer and in depth but honestly for how cheap it was it was good!
