"Antique" is right!
I bought this because the ink I buy locally comes in a bottle that's too deep for dipping without a mess, and the size is perfect - my nibs barely touch bottom before the reservoir is filled. On the design: The glass is exactly as clear as it seems in the pictures, not cloudy at all, and the cap indeed looks like antique, slightly tarnished silver. It doesn't close particularly well, but that's not really a problem since the neck isn't watertight anyway. I almost took a star off for this reason, but in the end you shouldn't really be turning an inkwell upside down anyway (I know I don't), so 5 stars was the final verdict.Summary: No bells or whistles, but it's exactly what you see and a charming little piece for an office desktop.

Excited
I was a little worried about purchasing the well because a lot of people said it wasn't air tight (and it's not) but now that I have it I'm glad I got it. It's pretty and even though it's not air tight it's still really cool. Plus unless you drop it on the floor the lid really shouldn't be a problem. One thing I don't like about it is since it's so small it's a bit hard to get ink on the pen, you have to get the pen at the right angle (which I should have thought of since it's so small). Over all I give it 4 stars, because even thought it's really cool, it does have some issues.

As Appears / Not Bad Little Replication for Price
This arrived, in a timely manner, but the silver lid was damaged, because it was shipped with insufficient packaging. Good News is, after an email or two and sending photos of damaged item, they shipped another, right away, in a proper little box, which is what it requires, vs. a bubble envelope. This item is as I expected, for the price. It's a nice little replication, for the money, I think and I would order again, I think. Not a bad gift item, I think, if you have time to deal with getting a replacement item, if needed.

Doesn't close well...
The inkwell worked... Mostly. It doesn't close very well so my ink sloshed out when I was moving it and made a mess. I have to keep it in a zippy bag as not to ruin the stuff in my desk.

Clear Cut Glass Inkwell
The inkwell was as illustrated and has already gone into service at the Pioneer Village were I serve as 1850's printer. If there were changes to be made, I would suggest a better seal between the swing open lid and the bottle. Screw on caps are relatively simple to produce and a lot more secure. The small clip is rather flimsy and does not hold the top securely. India Ink, tends to dry with exposure to air. Soon it becomes thick, clogging the steel point dip pens. As well the loose fitting lid will leak if the Inkwell is tipped. I had to make a square inkstand, into which the inkwell fit, to provide a more stable base. But still the inkwell is an attractive addition to the print shop

Lovely bottle
I bought this inkwell to replace a missing one in an antique writing slope that I have and it fit perfectly. Looks just like they were made for each other. I use a dip pen and a screw-cap bottle when I use the writing slope since I am very careful about spilling ink on an antique so I cannot say whether or not it holds ink very well. I do know that it is a very handsome bottle and looks just like a period inkwell.

disappointed
I didn't like it at all. Glass wasn't clean, bubbles. The cap feels cheap, doesn't close very well, I wouldn't put ink here because I think it might go bad/dry. If you plan to use it for a fountain pen, it might not work. Opening is too small.Of course for the price: you can't expect much. I'm not planing to use it.

Great ink wells
Perfect size and shape for my needs, holds a fair amount of ink, enough depth to adequately ink a glass or quill pen. Closes firmly, but not a “seal”, so unsure of the evaporation rate yet. Very satisfied with purchase overall. Took one star due to the setting of the caps. In spite of thorough packing, both lids (dome-type tops) each have small dent. NBD, doesn’t affect performance, just a bit unsightly. Would recommend.
