Though made of plastic, the proportional divider is well made. I have not used it, yet, but videos on you tube can help me when I do. Arrived quickly.

Measurements dont hold. Very flimsy. I was buying this from a youtube recommendation. Its probably just fine for fine art painting but for my needs doing technical precise botanical drawings I cannot recommend this. It keeps shifting and I can't get the arms to stay in one position if bumped even a little. Cheap plastic parts, not good for technical drawing enlargement the way I hoped. Looks like Im going to have to replace it with a metal one.

I have had the previous model for years, used it hard. It works as well as it did when it was new. I bought the new model because it appeared to offer more sizing options. It does! Slightly longer to accommodate more set-holes for more different enlargement ratios. Nothing not to love. The manufacturer left this dandy tool just as it was, except to increase the number of set-holes. Perfect. Light weight, a cinch to use and not expensive. I'm delighted and started using it instantly. UPDATE : I have used the new dividers now for weeks, and I have to say that the pointed tips on the old dividers are MUCH BETTER when working with very small references or hard to see areas (i.e., old pictures) than the newer dividers with their blunted tips. The blunter tips on the new dividers create a thickness that means that tiny measurements are not really possible. SAVE those old dividers b/c you're going to need them. ALSO, the newer dividers tend to slip slightly when moving between source and drawing. The longer legs of the divider perhaps contribute to this, and it happens no matter how hard you pinch them -- the very slightest touch/tap on one of the legs and you're back to re-measuring. I'm working on making the the divider a little harder to open and close; there needs to be a tighter fit. Still a good product and worth having for the greater range of ratios.

I love this tool and am disappointed that many art supply stores don't carry this item in stock, much less recommend it. I will often enlarge a drawing and have an Artograph that kind of annoys me since I have to do a ridiculous set up in order to use it. Just open the container, check the proportion you want to change it to, move the red tab and secure it then go. That's it. No lighting setup, no unboxing, moving the workstation or doing a balancing act. You can look online and type in the name of this product to see how it's used and you'll wonder how you survived without it. This is made of plastic but it doesn't feel cheap or junky at all. There are two metal ones that are outrageously priced but this will work for your projects and not break the bank. You don't have to limit the use of this tool with just photos or drawings either since it can be used for life drawing and sculpting too. This is something I wish I had found years ago and at least I found it, plus it's no so big and heavy that you can't use it for a full day's work.

Is item is brilliant, making my drawing much more accurate. I use it constantly. However, it is vastly overpriced but I wouldn’t be without it

Speedy delivery, great packaging. A very useful product when one wants to get proportions right. I could never do that with a simple pencil or a thumb.
