SHAPTON M15 Ceramic Whetstone 15 mm Stone with Wooden Base

This clearly says that it’s warranted only in Japan yet Amazon sold it to me in Texas! Other then that it seems well made and sharpened up a kitchen knife very quickly to a razor’s edge.

I finally gave in and got this because I didn’t want to ship my razor off to be honed. The strop wasn’t getting it shave ready. This is even, and exactly what it’s supposed to be. I honed my razor and it passed the hair split test. So I sharpened my microtechs on it too, razor sharp, this is how you get there. Excellent store I expect to last me, with my sharpening every few months, a lifetime.

I thought Shapton was a superb whetstone brand until I bought this one. The product advertises 12000 grit, but compared with my 6000 grit whetstone, it seems like a 1000. This stone is definitely not worth the $80 when you can get comparable grit sandpaper at Home Depot for $10.

Excellent item. Well made, sturdy, easy to use. Sharpened two dull straight razors in only about 30 laps each.

Works exactly as advertised. Sharpens knives to a nice mirror edge. Will probably last me forever.

Excellent stone

My shapton stone arrived in excellent condition, with letters of introduction to the Japanese firm that provided it including a superb box for storage. Thank you to YuiSenri.

For all the years, I wanna try to mirror-polish my Masamoto No.1 yanagiba. This stone helped me in a great deal. Real 12000 grit.

Sharpening chisels works fantastic

包丁の鏡面仕上げ用に使っています。包丁を研ぐのが好きで、時々、研いできましたが、やはり最終的には鏡面仕上げがしたいなと思い購入しました。目の細かさとしては砥石は３００００番くらいまであるようなのですが、そこまで行くとさすがに砥石の値段も高く、目が細かくてしかもある程度の価格ということで、この１２０００番の砥石に落ち着きました。私は、８０００番で研いでから、この１２０００番で研いでいます。しっかり、鏡面になります。（３００００番の砥石で研いだら、どうなってしまうんでしょうかね？）砥石が木の台に張り付いていて、高さも十分にあるので、研ぎ台は必要ないですね。四隅にゴムの小さな足がついていて、踏ん張ってくれるのであまり動かず、使いやすいです。とはいうものの、なんで木の台がついているのかわかりません。この砥石を使う人は、砥石台を持っているのではないか、と思うからです。実は、専用の砥石台のほうがしっかりしていますからね。私は台所のテーブルの上で研いでいて、水が垂れるので下にチラシや新聞紙を敷いているのですが、砥石台を使うと新聞紙の上でもズレませんが、この砥石はズレます。それで、これを使うときには砥石の片側だけ新聞紙から外れるようにしてテーブルにゴム足をつけてズレないようにしています。それにしても、そんなことはあまり意味はないかもしれません。１２０００番の砥石となると選択肢はほとんどないからです。それにしても、残念なのは、同じメーカーで刃の黒幕クリーム仕上げの１２０００番があり、価格帯も同じで、この２つでは何が違うのか、未だにわからない、ということです。ともかく、鏡面仕上げの目標は達成できているので満足しています。
