I have searched everywhere for a thickener alternative and I have tried EVERY powder and gel on the market. This one is by far the best. We started with Thick-It, in the early stages of her dysphagia, but I was never a fan. No matter how much I stirred or blended it, cold liquids always had a chalky texture, and the powder would clump together. my mother really disliked the aftertaste of Thick-it. Preparation felt like a hassle and the results weren’t consistent. Then I tried DysphagiaAide, and it has been a total game changer since. My mom requires honey-thick liquids, and I’ve found that 2–3 scoops per cup of juice or water gives the perfect consistency that she tolerates well. The mixing chart on the back is pretty accurate, and makes it easy to adjust based on the level of thickness you need. Here are the steps that work best for me: 1. Start with an empty cup that is completely dry—no moisture at all, not even a drop 2. Add the scoops of powder to the dry cup (according to the mixing chart). 3. Pour your water or juice directly over the powder. 4. Immediately after pouring, stir the liquid and thickener well for one full minute. 5. Let it sit for 10–20 minutes so the thickener can fully activate. (You can keep in fridge for those 10 mins if you like it cold) • This step is crucial for getting the correct consistency as the thickener continues to activate after stirring. I usually try to prepare my mom’s thickened juice the night before and keep it in the fridge as I like to have liquids ready and prepared ahead for when she needs it. but I’ve found that the product is fully activated and ready within 10–20 minutes if you’re making it fresh. Honestly, This has been a household essential in our home for 2 years and has been an absolute lifesaver. Highly recommend!!!!

This product might be a bit more expensive, however easy to thicken any beverage or soup. Added benefit is ability to add more powder if consistency needs to be thicker. Best if added to room temperature fluids, then place in refrigerator or microwave. Add slowly to hot beverage (coffee) while stirring otherwise powder sinks to bottom.

My mom has dysphagia and needed a liquid thickener. The one her speech therapist gave us had a funny taste and the only way she would drink water was if I added a flavor to it. The problem is the flavorings have added vitamins and minerals that interfere with some of her medications. I tried a gel thickener thinking it would be easier than a powder; however, to get a nectar consistency I had to use more and I found they didn't mix well with warm liquids. Then I found DysphagiAide and couldn't be happier. I like that you can customize the consistency, it is taste-free, works great with warm liquids and even carbonated liquids (you need to stir a little before each sip). I highly recommend using a shaker bottle with a metal round mixer for the best results. The company gives the consumer a lot of options making it very user friendly. I have personally tried every thickener before giving to my mom and I do think this one is by far the best.

My dad has to have thickened drinks. This is the ONLY one he will actually use. All the others don't mix well and change the flavor of the juices and Kool Aid it's mixed with.

This is the best I've used so far. Others can be grainy. Only thing I dislike is the way it gets gelatinous globs if not stirred well enough.
