great for dry spices!
I've only used this grinder for spices, not coffee. Paired with the power of Ninja Foodie I think this is the best spice grinder I have ever used (I think I've had about 3 others). I can confirm that it does in fact work with the SS401 even though the model is not listed in the description. I set it on smoothy, or extract if you want it very fine, I think extract over does it. For example: I bought a package of Leggs Italian Sausage spice mix, and the the spice mix (as I expected) had whole fennel seeds mixed in, that's not for me and my sausage! So I plugged this grinder into my Foodie, set to smoothy, fine powered spices, problem solved! I did just out of curiosity try to do fresh garlic, I would not recommend it, it's clearly advertised as a spice/coffee grinder but I had to try it. I wish Ninja would make a smaller, lower profile cup for the Foodie, like this size to do veggies and spice pastes. I find the smoothy tall cup is too hard to scoop out spice pastes, and ends up just splattering everything along the wall of cup without thoroughly mixing, (knowing Ninja, its possible that they do make a smaller veg chopper for the Foodie, I'll have to check). And I LOVE my Foodie but that's for another review!

Great little Ninja accessory!
Small but mighty! Our 16 year old Cuisinart coffee grinder finally died, so I was on the search for a new one. Didn’t want to spend a ton of money (especially given how many bad reviews every newer grinder seems to get these days), so after finding this attachment, I decided to give it a try. Soooo glad I found this thing! I love that I can just put it into my Ninja Base (I have the SS101: Ninja Foodi Smoothie Bowl Maker and Nutrient Extractor 1200WP 4 Auto-iQ) and press “start” and it does all the work for me. (My previous grinder required me to hold down a button the whole time). I tried it immediately, and found that it ground the beans pretty evenly, and washing the attachment/lid was quick and easy. While I wish I could grind more at a time, I don’t mind having to throw in an extra cup of beans in order to make up the difference. (Being hands-free makes all the difference!) If you have a Ninja base and you’re looking for a grinder, I definitely recommend this one! Just make sure your model is compatible first!

Worst Ninja product EVER!
This is the worst Ninja product I have ever purchased and been stuck with. It doesn’t grind well or stability. It only works well in one very particular configuration and there is no way except to guess by unlocking it, rotating, then locking it in again and pressing the pulse function. You can hear and feel when it’s right. The noise it makes is loud and it vibrates off or starts to strain the motor if it’s not correct. Lousy quality control for a company I usually trust.

It is an excellent piece.
It is an excellent piece, it grinds like a 6 to 8 tablespoon portion, IT DOES NOT COME WITH THE MOTOR, it is only the piece designed for the Ninja motor to make smoothies.

Works great
I never thought I would be the person who grinds their own coffee but here I am. I accidently purchased whole coffee beans instead of ground. So instead of returning them, I bought the attachment for my Ninja smoothie. I love it! It works great, really quick to grind, 25 seconds for fine. I even did some spices and nuts and those came out great. It is loud but the Ninja base is the noise maker.

Ecstatic to find this!
I needed a spice grinder but didn't want yet another appliance. This accessory fits on our Ninja base. I don't need fresh spices just yet, so I tested the unit with coffee. It holds the perfect amount at 12 TBSP. But the BEST part is the contact between the stainless inner cup and the outer clear overcap. No grinds fly out (a problem plaguing other brands)! And you can clearly see the grind through the top as it grinds. For 12 TBSP of coffee beans it took 5 seconds on plus about 3 pulses to get a drip grind. And frankly, the grind is more homogeneous than my 5 year old stand-by Bodum Bistro grinder. A quick wipe, run under hot water and towel dry is all that's needed to clean. I'm very happy and can't wait until I need to grind my spices.

Functional, but Frustrating
This spice grinder technically works—it grinds spices as expected—but the design leaves a lot to be desired. The lid doesn’t seal properly, which means every use turns into a cleanup session. If the return window were still open, I wouldn’t hesitate to send it back.

Day-um
You want to powder your dehydrated/freeze dried stuff? Or rocks? 🤣(That's a joke. I don't recommend trying rocks.) Everything Ninja makes sounds like an industrial bone grinder on high in the half bath under the stairs in an old apartment. So, yes. It's loud. I put most of the blame on the motors, not the tools we attach to those motors. Will obliterate stuff into dust. Easy to use, easy to clean. Just be SURE, SURE-SURE it's dry inside before you load it. It doesn't like to grind moist stuff. Peppermint candy? Dust if you want it. Dried herbs-you could just about suspend the particles in the air. Coffee? Fugitaboutit. What ever style of coffee you brew, you can get the perfect grind with a little practice in the pulse button. I've recommended it to my friends already. Would buy again.
