The Zohar: Pritzker Edition, Volume Nine

I like the translation. I like the notes. I like everything. The translator is a well-known scholar. All his books are good. Anyone interested in Kabbalah will want this essential source text--not just this volume but ALL the volumes. My teacher told me when the first volume came out and am I ever glad to own it! You will love it. The Pritzker English translation enables every reader to understand this amazing set of books. Every new volume is well-bound. I have consulted the various volumes many times and eagerly acquired each volume as it came out. I recommend it highly.

This version of the Zohar is very well made and can only be recommended. A true masterpiece and something that can be appreciated.

oyful academia. I think that phrase best describes Daniel Matt's translation – with commentary – of the Zohar. PLUS no red string needed to reap the benefits of this incredible series. The author is much like a skilled chef: he not only understands what ingredients are in the product...in addition to where each ingredient has been grown...he also understands how they interplay with each other, how to mix them and how the final product will taste even before cooking it. Daniel Matt takes us into the garden that is the Zohar and acts as tour guide, storyteller and head chef. A word of caution however: this is a meal of esoteric thought. Some of the flavors you will be exposed to may seem a bit too scary taste or unfathomable. Like any feast of exotic food, you will need to commit yourself to the whole meal to gain perspective and appreciation for each course. The payoff will be a deliciously deep & rational understanding of the Zohar specifically and the Jewish mystical experience as whole. This is an important and valuable addition to anyone's library.

I'm going to comment on the series of Zohar: Pritzker Editions instead of just on book. This series is a wonderful translation and composition of all of the remaining copies of the Zohar. The footnotes really help in understanding what the (at times) cryptic text is saying. I would recommend this series to anyone interested in reading the Zohar.
