Does this hose work on a portable AC

Hello, the inner diameter of the drain hose is 5/8 inch, it may not fit portable air conditioner.

Will this screw onto regular garden hose type threads?

where do you connect the hose to drain water

It depends on the A/C unit. Some units like mini-split or potable A/C have built-in drain outlet for drainage, usually at the back or bottom of the unit, in this case, connect the drain hose to this drain outlet to drain water. Some units like window A/C, they usually have drain hole at the bottom or back, but you will need an extra drain connector to connect the drain hose.
