I bought this the replace one that I had won off of Clawee a game app that you can win prizes off of using a claw machine that was put on a shelf high up and I had had it for about 4 years and was always a great conversation piece because it always caught people's eye when they came into the room and unfortunately was accidentally broken aand so I bought this to replace it and although it's not exactly like the one I had but I'm satisfied with it and it's pretty inexpensive I would recommend this for anyone who wants an conventional piece, something to catch people's eye plus it reacts to the static electric discharge your hand puts out as well as reacts to lauf sounds it reacts to every time I turn up my sound bar so if you have guests over it makes a great and fun thing to interact with or just watch . It runs of of a USB power adapter and 3 AAA batteries.

Ordered this 8" and another brand 7". I ordered two different ones because it was to be a last-minute gift and both had negative reviews about poor function out-of-the-box. Tested both and both worked well. This one was more impressive because 1" in diameter makes a big difference. Overall lighting effect was the same (not diminished with larger diameter). The photo is accurate with this one (the other brand was definitely photo-shopped). This was also $5 less than the other brand. I cannot remember which brand had reviews talking about a "warm-up" period being required - There is no warm-up period. Whoever wrote that must have had one with sketchy wiring. Construction of the two was identical, as expected from Chinese-made items. I find it laughable that some other reviewer thinks he should get a heavy-duty, US-quality, substantial item for $30 including shipping. As for those who complain that is doesn't work anymore after a month or two... Clearly you do not understood the business model in China - "cheap today, trash tomorrow". They do not want anything to last for long because your house will be full, and you will stop buying their stuff. As for me - I was looking for cool and unique birthday party gifts for 10-13yr old girls who have everything and need nothing so these are perfect, and I will definitely be getting more.

The effect is impressive and fun to look at. However, the picture shows more plasma glow than it actually is. I gave it 4 stars partly due to that and a screw was missing for the plastic battery cover. Overall good value.

After having purchased another plasma globe that was a little disappointing, I’m really impressed with this one at this price point. The electrode is well centered, which means the plasma is very evenly distributed with many strands. The globe is a full eight inches in diameter, and the power is balanced well so multiple people can use it and each get a good amount of control over the plasma closest to them. The center electrode is as fun to watch with the plasma crawling over it as a campfire, I could stare at it for a long time. The glass, like all inexpensive plasma globes, is very very thin. It has to be to give a good effect and respond strongly to your touch. It is packaged very well with custom fit styrofoam, and the product box is shipped in another exactly fitting box, so it should last if it’s something you put away or store, and it should handle several shipments. I’d recommend a hard case for frequent travel or shipping. Note that the plasma is not bright enough to overcome sunlight or very bright office or classroom environments. It excels in dim and dark rooms, and is visible in moderate lighting, but you have to pay careful attention in brightly lit areas.

This is a pretty big globe. It works better in the dark and can be activated by sound. As seen in the video. It only lights up when you touch it or when it’s triggered by a noise. Otherwise it reminds off. It works great for parties and decoration. I be careful of the plastic dome aroma it it cracks/breaks easily.

I’ve always loved plasma globes, ever since I bought my first one 25 years ago. This little guy has been a lot of fun. The ability to run it off of batteries or a simple USB cord is great. The unit itself is well-made. Even after dropping it on a thin carpet a couple of times, it has shown no harm. The weird behavior of the multi-colored tendrils is a delight to watch. Touching the globe with anything organic — such as a finger — is fascinating. Go ahead and buy the darn thing. It’s cheap, well-made, and lots of fun.

Pretty good for a cheap toy. Nice color & patterns. Light weight but solid plastic, not afraid of it breaking.

I ordered this for my son for Christmas after seeing one at a museum gift shop. It is very light and does not feel well made. The base is very thin plastic. The switch is cheap. It only worked one time and quit. When it was on, you could see a hot spot burning on the bulb. Because I ordered it in October, it is no longer returnable. I do not recommend this product.
