Hard to beat for its affordability and quality construction. The reel I used before this was Kastking Spartacus, another quality reel. Upon taking this reel out of the box, I immediately notice how light and smooth it is. When mounted on the rod, the clearance is plenty and that the spool doesn't hit my fingers. Thanks to its spool design, any knot you use to line this reel, your line won't slip around. Haven't fought a decent fish with this reel yet, but first impressions are highly positive. From it's sleek and light design, smooth action and just good general feeling when holding it.

I purchased a few Megatrons for use on the boat, thinking that if one of my kids (or inebriated friends) banged it up or worse...sent it into the ocean...it wouldn't be that big of a loss. I should note that these reels see a lot of use - on average twice a week for about 8 months out of the year. Over the past two years the reels have held up fairly well. While I am consistent with rinsing the reels after each use, I typically disassemble/clean/re-grease the reels only once a year (between seasons). With this last pre-season maintenance, I noticed that some of the internal parts had salt build-up and a few were starting to corrode. There is some light pitting on one of the outside of one of the reel housings as well. I think realistically I'll get one more season out of the reels before I see a failure of some sort. If it's reasonable to replace the failed part, then I'll do so. Given the price point, I would certainly consider buying a new Megatron and using the hypothetical broken one for spare parts. For three solid years of hoisting sea bass, bluefish, fluke, and mackerel over the railing - I can't complain. To that end - it would be nice if the reel was sealed a bit better. For ~$50 (as of this writing), I'll keep my expectations in line. If you're considering a Megatron for freshwater use and/or occasional saltwater use - I think this is a solid reel for the money.

I purchased the 4000 series for inshore on the gulf coast. The design and price are what got my attention to this reel. Out of the box, it was lightweight and clean, came with a breakdown guide of the reel, and how to care for the reel. I spooled it with 22 lb braid, on a 7'2" medium/fast action rod. The spool was easy to put braid on with no backing. Tested this is 3/4 oz spoon, the casting was great, threw it about a hundred times, and no issues at all. Retrieval, it did not feel like a 3/4 spoon, much lighter feel. Pulled in two specs and a red, with no issues. The reel did not bog down with the weight, I even got hung on something and pulled the boat to it to get it unhooked. The drag was great, I set it light just to test it out and tightened it during a fight and it was very smooth and responsive. The handle and grip are comfortable, no play in the handle nor the anti-reel. Love this reel, even my buddy who has Penn reels loved it and want to get one for himself. I will be purchasing more to replace my other reels.
