Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Full of huge realisations and moments of insight - I thought this book was superb but more than that, after about ten minutes I felt it was already changing my behaviour! My friend who recommended it said the same. Perry lays out her methods and thoughts very gently, with lots of good examples from real life, little case studies; but it’s the insights which really help. Looking at WHY we lose our rag about certain trigger bits of parenting - going back to our own childhoods and looking at why - OH MY GOD. Brilliant. There’s also so much help here about FIXING those situations once you as the parent have cocked up. Rupture / repair, as she puts it. And also advice on how to manage your parental situations better. When your kid says look at this, LOOK AT IT. I know that sounds sort of obvious but often I will say “hang on a sec I’m making dinner” etc. I feel like from now on I will do that differently because it doesn’t take two seconds to run and look. And the response you get is ♥️ I found it readable, funny, thoughtful, insightful, but most of all INCREDIBLY useful and, very very very rare for a book, genuinely life-changing. Review: Best parenting & self healing book - I read a lot of self development books and no book has impacted and changed me the way this book has. Highly recommend for all current and upcoming parents. Also great if you're going through your own self discovery journey, our childhood holds the key to almost all our future behaviours. This will help you understand what your inner child needs and be able to offer it to yourself as an adult so you can heal too. It's written in a way that is incredibly easy to understand and take away what you have to do. I read on kindle and it was great.

Useful yet repetitive
I liked the book and I’m definitely taking advice from it, I’ve also recommended it to friends already. However I do feel it could be shorter by removing the repetition, at times I feel like I’ve read the same paragraph multiple times over. I’d also love to hear more examples of parents with multiple children, a lot of the examples were one child households, whereas many people have more

5 Stars!
I want to start this review off by saying that I'm not much of a reader at all, I very rarely read books. But I have read all of this in about a month! I would recommend this book to anyone, parent or not. It's full of helpful and interesting tips and information and has actually helped me lots in understanding why I am the way I am due to my own upbringing. I'll keep hold of this book for when I have children of my own, I'm sure it will come in handy in any situation I'm not sure how to handle. One of the things I love most about it is that Philippa Perry doesn't try to make you feel bad about your past actions or mistakes you may have made with your kids, but instead she explains gently and in detail how to "repair ruptures" and how to be more empathetic and patient going forward. I honestly really struggled to put this book down, it was so interesting from start to finish. Amazing.

This book should come with a warning
There are some great tips on this book and it will definitely help make me a better father. However... And a big however this book needs a warning. It will make you feel like the worst parent in the world in parts. The author writes with such purpose and authority on some topics, many of which you'll think "oh dear I didn't do that with my daughter and now I feel like I've let her down and will grow up having psychological issues". The book also doesn't take in to account that parents are mostly exhausted physically and emotionally, are stressed and scared too. This book tells you about wonderful theories you can try and apply but when you take in to account how tired you are, the wonderful ideas in this book seem virtually unachievable. I read about 75% of the book before realising the book was doing me more harm than good.

The missing link
I adore my child but admit I was struggling with her turning from a compliant baby into a strong willed toddler. I was trying positive parenting and to stay calm but I kept feeling this rage rise up in me when I couldn't get her to do what I wanted. I kept it within me but was really aware of the feeling and kept trying to do better. The first chapter of Philippa's book provided the help I needed which was when your child is upset, whining or distressed to try and think how is this situation feeling for them, and to see things from their perspective. This approach - and also looking back at my own childhood like she suggests - has stopped the horrible angry feeling and given me something to work with that helps me to calm my child and stay present. After the first day of doing this I put her to bed after a much easier day together and I felt fulfilled as a parent and that I'd done a good job of being her mum. This approach had also made parenting much more interesting for me and felt so much more rewarding. I already feel closer to my little girl after a few days. The book really helps you to understand that you get out of parenting what you put into it long term. It's also helped me realise the importance of responding to the requests for connection and dialogue and that this really helps us connect and prevents annoying behaviour as the child feels heard so doesn't need to whine for attention. It's a brilliant book, easy to read and very kind. I will be rereading with my highlighter pen to put quotes on my fridge for the tough days. Thank you Philippa. This came just when I needed it.

It's quite practical and easy to apply to our child. Especially children 's lie, they learn from you when you didn't tell the truth to your partner, your child learn from you as you are role model. Although you made mistakes, you can still educate your child about white or positive lie and black or negative lie. It's crucial for us to educate our children otherwise they would think that lie is okay and acceptable and it can lead negative consequences. Hope you can also learn how to be a good role model for our children from this book. Kind regards,
