i did not get any weights with item,do they come with it or are they xtra?

The clock kit does not come with weights. I used a combinations of quarters and steel washers in the weight bucket.

Is there a dome or cover that protects this?

I gave this as a gift, but I don't believe there is any sort of cover for it.
