I've purchased dozens of bilge pumps, and this one has lasted the longest in my bilges (42' Chris Craft w/ 4 pumps, 108' decommissioned wooden ship w/ 9 bilge compartments). The price has consistently increased with inflation and it is still worth the money. The automatic control end has to be kept clean of slime else it will not automatically shut off. It has a built in sensor that energizes the pump and measures the amperage to see if the pump is in water or air, so it kicks on once every two minutes and spins for about 2-3 seconds then turns off again, the sound is reassuring since I know the bilge is dry when I hear it, the power used is nominal. I keep a spare in each boat. Just replaced another one in the Chris Craft (built 1970), the pickup was covered in gunk and debris so I am guessing it tried until it died, 3 years old, not bad. Put in another and the bilge was pumped in 40 minutes. I will continue testing other pumps, but in my logbook, this is the one to beat.

This is a very low profile pump and thus is ideal for confined or difficult locations. In my case, the bilge is very shallow, less than 4 inches, therefore the standard vertical pumps would not work. The ability to turn the outlet through 180 degrees makes placement very easy. The pump comes with several settings, the first are a high level, approximately 2.5 inches, the second is a low level of approximately 1 inch. The pump can also be switched to an autosensing mode whereby the pump switches on every 2.5 minutes and then turns off if no water is detected. I have the pump connected to a Rule #41 switch which allows for manual or auto operation.
