PRO Timer 3 Camera Intervalometer for Time Lapse and Astro Photography

An essential piece of German engineering for photographers obsessive about accurate control of the camera shutter in time lapse and astrophotography use, a gift from someone who has clearly mastered the craft of recording the passage of time in landscape photography. Most features are intuitive, and the online manual fills in all the rest clearly. The device just plain works. With the correct cable - same as for use with a Star Adventurer 2i tracking head - it fires the Nikon D850 and D500 reliably for hours. Easy pause function allows me to pause shooting to change camera settings, reset camera WIFI for tablet or PC control connection, and resume shooting. Thank you Gunther Wegner for taking all you know about time lapse and incorporating it into a tiny, full-featured and effective solution for firing the shutter reliably over a few minutes or many hours! And GW must sell enough of these that Amazon stocked them locally and it was shipped very quickly.

First of all, the LRT Pro Timer 3 is an intervalometer that just works, giving you a lot of functionalities and flexibility as stated in its description. The usage and handling is really easy and intuitive, supported by a good documentation, the LRTimelapse forum and Gunther Wegner, the founder of LRTimelapse. Using a Fuji X-T3 I recognized quickly that the built-in interval timer shooting mode has several shortcomings considering time lapse shootings: - Important information like the histogram and exposure parameters are not displayed when using the built-in functionality. This is definitely a problem when shooting in changing light conditions, for example during sunsets, daytime to nighttime transitions (holy grail) and so on. - Intervals can only be set in full second intervals and not lower than one second. - No ramp interval functionality The LRT Pro Timer 3 provides all these functionalities and even more. Critical parameters (autofocus time, release time, etc.) can be adjusted to the needs of your specific camera, if necessary. The fact that the LRT Pro Timer 3 gets connected to the camera by a standard remote release connection (2.5mm) leaves the USB C connection of the camera still available for other purposes, for example an external power supply for long shootings. Yes, the LRT Pro Timer is quite an expensive product, but it definitely delivers regarding functionality, easy usage and support. The only thing I miss, but maybe that’s just me, is a small (plastic) box to store and transport the LRT Pro Timer 3, considering its price and value. Also, but again it’s just me, I normally don’t use the LRT Pro Timer 3 mounted to the hot shoe of the camera, using a longer cable I simply place it on my camera bag beside the camera / tripod. That way I avoid potential movements and impacts to the camera when adjusting values like interval ramping. Overall a great little device, for me well worth the investment and definitely a recommendation.

I have a MoveShootMove astro rotator that will not auto trigger my Olympus EM1X/M1.2/M1/3 cameras. Using a typical wireless trigger with my cameras and my rotator would not sync up and there was lost images. As a test, with the LRT PRO Timer 3, setup was in minutes, and the LRT PRO Timer would rotate the astro rotator, and shot a photo, it would do this every 5 seconds which is the time I setup. Amazing product! I know it is expensive, however there is nothing on the market for my needs and to use my Olympus cameras. HIGHLY recommended.

Fairly easy to configure and is built very well. I am dinging it one star for the cost, this thing can't cost more than five or ten dollars to manufacture.

The unit is built very solid, menus solid and easy and the ability to change the timing as we go through daybreak or sunset. The features are great and the only knock I have is the cost.

This is a tiny, extremely light, but mighty intervalometer with some well thought out options and great ergonomics especially for those very cold days where gloves are a necessity. The housing is light but durable unique plastic and the display is excellent. What sets this apart from the usual cheap generic models is the the short black mode releasing control of your camera allowing you to adjust critical settings between shots.

Larges possibilités de réglages pour réaliser un time lapse. Sans doute même le produit le plus abouti et le plus solide du marché. Un regret toutefois : le changement compliqué de la pile bouton qui alimente l'horloge intégrée. Pour cela ne ne donne que 4 étoiles. Je recommande néanmoins cet article.

Hoy día sabemos todos que existen muchos tipos de disparadores para cámara, ya sea por cable, radiofrecuencia o bien programando la misma cámara. Pero que tiene de especial este disparador, o mejor dicho, que puedes hacer con él que no puedes hacer de otra manera? Pues poder controlar los parámetros de tu cámara mientras el LRT gestiona el tiempo. Las cámaras avanzadas tienen programas avanzados para hacer timelapse, pero una vez que lo activas no puedes cambiar los datos de disparo, por ejemplo en una puesta de sol donde se pasa de una luz muy fuerte a pleno sol a prácticamente la oscuridad total se puede pasar de disparar a 1/500s a necesitar 10 o 15 segundos para exponer el cielo oscuro y estrellado, y que además la transición sea suave y correctamente expuesta. Pues eso es algo que no resuelve la cámara y otros disparadores remotos pero con el LRT y sabiendo que exposición poner en cada momento, el resultado es fantástico. Una de las cualidades que más me gustan de LRT es poder hacer rampas de forma fácil para poder aumentar o reducir los tiempos de exposición sin preocuparme del tiempo del intervalo, por ejemplo, en una puesta de sol empezar con intervalos de 5 segundos para captar la transición, y sin tener que parar para programar una rampa para pasar de 5 a 15 segundos en una hora de modo suave y adaptando los tiempos de exposición de la cámara. Además puedes disparar una segunda cámara de modo sincronizado o controlar un complejo slide motion. También tiene modos específicos para astro fotografía, programados a horas concretas (imagina grabar una cada día repitiendo cada día a la misma hora la misma secuencia). El dispositivo es fácil de programar, la batería interna da para muchas horas de trabajo y la puedes recargar mientras lo usas. La mini pantalla oled se ve perfectamente ya sea de día o en plena oscuridad. Los menús de configuración son fáciles de entender. Solo necesitas un botón para programarlo y está pensado para programarlo con guantes a temperaturas muy bajas. Es fácil de montar sobre la cámara, y prácticamente no pesa nada. El soporte técnico y la atención al cliente es de primera, mi primera unidad tenía un defecto que no permitía actualizar el firmware (no afectaba a la carga ni al uso), contacte con el SAT por email y me enviaron una nueva unidad en menos de 24h sin cargo ni costes de devolución. Hay que indicar que este dispositivo no está pensado para el que hace fotos con todo en modo automático en su cámara. Ha sido ideado y mejorado con la colaboración de muchos fotógrafos profesionales de reconocido prestigio. También decir que siguiendo las explicaciones y viendo los vídeos no es difícil dar el salto para disparar en modo manual y conseguir timelapse espectaculares. También indicar que el dispositivo no incorpora cable de disparo para cámara, ni tiene dependencia con ninguna cámara, toda cámara se puede conectar con su respect o cable de disparo. En Amazon es fácil encontrar el cable y dependiendo de la marca y modelo puede costar entre 7 y 15 euros (yo utilizo Nikon, pero lo he probado con una Sony y su respectivo cable y funciona sin problemas). Tampoco incluye el cable de carga mini USB, pero tampoco es problema he reutilizado el cable de un viejo disco duro. Es importante saber que el cable USB para cargar sirve cualquier cable, pero si se pretende actualizar el firmware, el cable tiene que soportar transmisión de datos, estos cables son económicos, entre 1 y 3 euros. He realizado timelapse en 8K y 4K con unos resultados mucho mejores que cuando utilizaba los los conocidos disparadores por cable o radiofrecuencia... El LRTimelapse pro 3.0 tiene un sitio fijo en mi mochila. He visto una valoración de 1 estrella sobre este producto y me ha sorprendido (respeto las opiniones de todo el mundo), pero el que lo ha valorado tan bajo podía haber puesto el motivo... I picked up the Pro Timer 3 after coming across the earlier 2.5 version in a review and so glad I did. Using the Pro Timer for Astro is a breeze vs. all the generic canon versions out there (talking as an owner of these). Everything is controlled by a simple knob and push in to select method which I can confirm is easy to use even when using thick gloves. The logic and simplicity of using the Pro Timer is also much more intuitive than all the others on the marketplace I have come across. It is also superb for timelapse photography and can control two cameras at once. Best of all the support for the product is fantastic with an active and friendly product forum. The downsides? Cost i suppose but you are paying for a premium product that is unique on the marketplace and is made in Europe. Highly recommended.
