Four episodes of the long-running American variety show hosted by Ed Sullivan, all featuring performances by the Beatles at the height of their popularity. Review: Quality is great - If you're an Ed Sullivan fan, or more specifically, a Beatles fan, this is a great find. I watched their first debut on February 9th, 1963. I thought I remembered it perfectly, but was really surprised at how Paul-centric it was. Not complaining though. John, George and Ringo shown through too. John had his fair share of numbers. As for the video itself, it was clear, perfect picture quality. And the choice of watching the entire shows or just the Beatles' segments of each show. There were 4 different episodes they were on that were represented. Just loved this. Admittedly, after watching the first entire show, I went to the Beatles segments instead. Review: This dvd is good enough quality for me - I know folks today have to have everything crisp and in latest formats. This dvd is good enough quality for me. I don't have a bluray player yet, and could care less. I am enjoying going back to the past, and reliving, when I saw these clips on old 25 inch tv's, or smaller. Remembering and reliving the skits on the show, along with the old commercials. It is just like sitting in the living rooom and watching it as a teen again. I have ordered 2 dvds more for my friends who loved the beatles. My one friend took his dad's motion camera and filmed it off the tv, as they were watching it. Years later it was so cool to see it when he played it on a projector screen. Now it is here to enjoy again. I don't care if it is not the best format or sound. It is just fun to see them again. You can go to the songs and skip the shows if you want as well on this dvd. I have almost finished the "all the songs" beatle book, so this is an added pleasure, on top of reading who wrote the songs, and what instruments, and who sat out on a song. Then to see them play live again is icing on the cake.

Made me feel 14 again
I never purchased earlier versions of this so I cannot comment on the quality of this vis-a-vis them. I do know there are technical limitations to what can be done with kinescopes and aged tape. Those who think or want these things to look current may be missing the point. There are many, many of us who believe the world turned around on February 9, 1964 with this first opportunity for the masses to see The Beatles in action. (OK, they were on Paar and some other shows but rememeber, Sullivan's show was the cynosure,,,it was legitimcay; that's why - at least in this case - Epstein was brilliant) Moreso, look at what else was on these shows. How much would you pay for a DVD of Frank Gorshin or Two Ton Tessie O'Shea...or even Georgia Brown???? Sullivan brought vaudeville to TV and The Beatles changed that. From here on, Rock 'n' Roll became normal for family vieiwng. How many groups did we get to see after these performances. This was a tipping point. But besides that. Watch these four sets of performances - you can set the DVD to just show The Beatles. Watch the maturing in their performances across the three February shows and then see the quantum leap in how they are at that 1965 show. They had played Shea the month before; probably the first stadium concert ever. Notice also how much better the Sullivan showm techies handle the staging itself. This is historic stuff!

"Here they are ... THE BEATLES" (much screaming ensues)
I saw these shows back in the day when they originally aired. My spine tingled and my hair stood on end. In these days of endless options for televised entertainment, it's hard for some (younger folks) to imagine what all the mania was about. These shows, in their entirety (all acts, commercials, etc.) really put the Beatles impact in perspective. The other acts on the bill pale in comparison to the electricity that the band generates. And it wasn't a bunch of small-time performers - Sullivan garnered the premier entertainers of the day; comedians, Broadway players and fellow musicians tried to share the stage and were simply blown away. The video is excellent and the sound, even with the intense screaming, is very good. Loads of hits and spot on performances by the Beatles make this a thoroughly enjoyable ride. From a historical aspect, it's an invaluable document of the first crushing wave of The British Invasion and the beginning of the end of popular music as it was known at the time. A "really big show" as Ed liked to say.

Well what can I possibly say that hasn't been said about the famous appearance of The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. Well to start with this set shows you how great The Beatles were at performing in front of an audience. Here you get to hear them in full voice and actually here what they were playing without screams all the way through. On here the band come across as four genuine guys with good humour and really likeable. It's not hard to see why they call it the 'Night that changed America'. Also really like the old tv adverts in between performers. I did buy this just for The Beatles performances but I must say I did enjoy seeing the other performers on the show. This DVD is a great way of getting you close to Beatlemania, The 60's and a different time in the world. Can't recommend this more highly, for any Beatles fan this is a must have to your collection!

These four Ed Sullivan shows are fantastic. Not only are they complete shows, but they have all the original commercials too. I'ts like you are there in 1964. The video is really good and the sound is in dolby stereo or dolby 5.1, which ever you choose, they sound great. Since these are complete shows, there are some acts that are a bit dated, but that seems to add to the whole experience. This brings us back in time when the British Invasion started in America, after the Beatles, this opened up a whole new sound and a whole new culture in the sixties.

I bought this due to its hisyorical significance. However be aware that the videocquality has not been restored, from what I can see. Nevertheless a must have for any Beatles tragic like me. Loved it and seeing the other artists
