This Artisians lamp is quite adequate if you can tighten the knobs enough to control it. It was easy to assemble and and the clamp seems very stable with a non-slip pad. The head does not rotate to point at the ceiling, which I enjoyed with my old lamp when I didn't want light in my eyes. This lamp covers several areas in my room, and works well.

I bought two of these and they both lasted about a month before it became too difficult to turn them on. These are one of those lighting products where the "switch" is a tiny black nub that becomes harder and harder to twist, due to some trick of the manufacturer, so that after a few weeks you need a pair of vice grips to turn it on. Either that or your fingers get all bruised. I'm leaving this review so that Jeff Bezos knows that he basically needs to send me a new lamp every month until he can figure out how to fix this product. I didn't realize that I was purchasing a subscription, but I guess that's how it is. The metal is also very flimsy. Or he could go to jail, I'm not sure what the future holds for either of us. I'm pretty sure that this product is an illegal copy of a version that had been produced more honestly in the past. Everything about it is designed to be frustrating to the user. The adjustment knobs are incapable of tightening properly, by design. They do not grip, there are only 2 layers. You set the lamp up and watch it slowly sag like a sad tomato. Every time. When you move it the base threatens to break off, the metal that supports it is so weak. Whoever designed this lamp, clearly wanted to send a message that Americans should not be architects or try to do anything creative at a desk. If televisions were designed this badly, they would catch fire as soon as you plugged them in. A lamp is not rocket science. The only science here is the science of deliberately undermining usability for the consumer, while deceiving them into thinking they are getting a different product. I was able to purchase an "Ace Clamp Lamp" for $20 at the local Ace Hardware (see photo). It comes with a clip which is sufficiently strong to attach it to the edge of a book case, or to a door. The on-off switch is easy to operate, and doesn't bruise the fingers. You push it one way for "on" and the opposite way for "off", which is way simpler than having to turn a tiny slippery stuck knob, as you do with this product (and to have to turn it an even number of times for "stay the same" and an odd number of times for "change"). The angle can be adjusted easily using a ball clamp that always stays put when tightened. It never sags like a sad tomato, which incidentally makes me feel a lot safer with regards to fire danger. It is light-weight. It can take a 150 W bulb, not that you can buy those anymore. The only drawback is that you need another piece of furniture to attach it to; but that's way preferable to owning an appliance that was designed by your enemies to mock you.

Good lamp but only go up to 40 watt incandescent bulb or will burn out quickly

This desk lamp exceeded my expectations. The lighting is clear and comfortable, providing excellent visibility without causing eye strain. The gloss black" architect" lamp was shipped in the manufacturer's box so quite beat up. The only damage appears to be at one of the triangular hinges where the paint was put on too thick and it chipped off in two areas. Initially I thought the upper springs were missing and was prepared to return, but they were packaged inside the table clamp and instructions bag. The twist knobs at the joints need to be tightened down a lot to keep the arms and head from moving excessively. The metal "socket" on the table clamp to receive the lamp arm tube is kind of a loose and sloppy fit so a short piece of tubing ...or whatever might make it a little more sturdy. Overall it's an inexpensive (cheap) lamp by today's standard so I honestly didn't expect a lot. At least it is mostly metal where it counts. I think they did cheap out at the lamp head which appears to be a plastic connector. I haven't yet received the second lamp I ordered (black with brass accents?) and it is probably the same quality? It was on sale and they were both about $21 whan I purchased. If I really needed another for light duty purposes I would probably order it again, but don't think I would pay more than that. I recall a similar lamp my dad had years and years ago and this is nothing like that lamp in terms of quality. I have no idea what he paid for it though. Probably more than $21?

This is the second of these lamps I buy. Used by my girls to read in bed. The first one is used on the lower bunk bed, which my daughter enclosed in blankets for privacy. No heat emanates from this LED lamp, so no risk of fire or burning her fingers when moving the lamp head. Second was bought for jealous elder sister who is now schooled from home. It swings easily between her bed and her small desk so she can work/read/study with appropriate lighting. In both cases, the spring system is sturdy enough to hold the lamp head where positioned. No sagging or spring back. Overall, satisfied with both purchases. A bit expensive, but built well enough to be worth it. Would have liked the option of a screw-in base bracket for wall/bedside mounting, but can make one myself.

I've had this lamp for a while now. I love it. It looks great and is flexible to move around to however I sit in my bed where I use it as my bed lamp.

I am a painter, and use this lamp over my desk. I use it with a daylight bulb, which keeps the colours true. It moves fairly easily, although I feel it could be a bit tighter in the joints. Nice and easy to turn on, and it packs away if you want to take it to the cottage.
