Worth It - but get the remote
I have a Jayco 25 ft travel trailer and I left the vent open going down the road and the wind made the crank break. I could have just fixed it with an $8 replacement part but I saw this and had to have it. I liked the idea of having a built in cover so I'd never have to worry about leaving it open again, and that it has a much more useful fan over the tiny one speed fan my old unit had. The installation video on here makes the job really easy. Took me a little over 3 hours. The hardest thing is removing the old caulk which just takes time and elbow grease, just peel if off by hand, a putty knife helps. The fan works great and is very powerful. It is virtually silent on the lowest setting and will cool the unit nicely at the highest setting. It also is reversible and has a auto themostat that is set to 76 deg. One thing I did not count on, installed the controls are high up in the unit housing depending on how thick your roof is (mine is 5 inches). The crank and fan switch on the old vent were much lower in the housing and my wife could easily reach them. She now has to stand on her tippy toes to reach the controls on this one. So I advise spending the additional money to get the remote given that issue (the remote allows you to do everything and even open and close the vent without touching the fan). But otherwise very happy with it. You can tell its a very high quality unit.

"Revised" Now performing flawlessly!
"Revised" 11/29/2024 Hey, these fans are excellent! I had some issues early on but Maxxair stepped up and absolutely took care of me. Thank you Maxxair. I should have revised this 1.5 years ago. I would absolutely purchase this fan again, though the current one that Maxxair helped me with works flawelessly so I don't have a need to buy another. Super quiet, high air flow, and I run it all night in our camping trailer have experienced no negative effects, and this is on my trailer batteries for days at a time. It uses very little juice. I highly recommend. I'm sure Maxxair has removed all the ones with circuit boards that were having problems. I would buy with confidence. I only leave the information below from my original review to show where I've come from to where I am now with Maxxair. They solve problems! Read the negative reviews and believe them. I took a chance against my better judgement and purchased this fan. Just like you'll read in negative reviews and in a host of forums, for many buyers this fan runs perfectly for a while, then one day you turn it on, it runs for 10 seconds, then you get a loud obnoxious beep for about 10 seconds and it won't run. Everything I've researched says its board has very strict voltage requirements. RV's simply don't lock on to exactly 12v all day and night. Shore power, battery charge fluctuations and other factors cause a voltage variance. Everything else in my trailer runs fine with these variances, but apparently the Maxxair board was designed to operate in a vacuum with minimal voltage fluctuation. I've reached out to Maxxair but have not yet heard back. For the two days it functioned it was great. I'd recommend shopping other brands. If I get a positive solution from Maxxair I'll quickly update this review. Update 9/12/22 Still nothing from Maxxair except for the auto reply to my email 4 days ago saying someone will respond to me quickly! Update 4/25/2023. Maxxair is sending me a new circuit board. There was no explanation, just an email stating that I'll be receiving one. Hopefully this makes the fan function as it should. If it does, I'll amend this review.

Replacing standard Flip up vents with a Maxxair power vent
I have a Keystone Passport 28 foot Travel trailer with two "standard issue" roof vents. One is over the bathroom, one is over the kitchen area. My first MAXXAIRunit that I purchased was to replace the bathroom one, because the bathroom fan seemed to be merely a noisemaker. The fan diameter was about 4" and didn't move much air. We have done RV work before, and the process to remove the old fan and vent frame and replace it with this one was no trouble. Before you start on replacing the vent with this one, make sure you have proper supplies specifically the ones needed to re-seal the replacement unit to the RV. We used Butyl rubber tape between the lip of the vent and the roof, and we used a self leveling roof sealant / caulk to additionally seal the upper part of the vent lip to the rest of the exposed roof area. Start by disconnecting any power source from the RV (shore power, batteries, etc). Removing the old vent was not an issue. We removed the outer sealant by scraping it off the frame and then removed the screws holding the vent lip to the roof. I would suggest going VERY SLOW and separating any adhesives holding the old vent in that seal it to your roof using a dull spatula like tool (Painters scraping tool that has been dulled, etc). Power was disconnected between the fan and the DC power supply (I clipped the old fan wires going into the wire nuts so that I would match the polarity of the replacement fan). Once we had the fan unit out, we cleaned the remaining sealants from the vent hole. Putting the fan base in was a relatively easy task. We sealed the area between the lip and the roof with Butyl rubber tape. We had one person inside the RV pulling the frame in place and centering it right, and the other on the roof would then screw in the frame. Most of the holes from the old frame matched the holes on the new frame so there was not a lot of worry about putting extra holes in the exterior roof. Once the frame is on and secured, we put the fan assembly on top with the vent hatch raised. Putting the 4 screws in the side of the fan (2 on passenger side, 2 on driver side) was a challenge in alignment, but after several tries, we got it in and secured. DC power connections were properly replaced (White to White, Black to Black), Inside trim frame was cut to fit (follow the directions, it's simple). and the frame was secured. The fan part now is about a full 12" (as opposed to a 4" fan) and it pulls air MUCH nicer than the old fan. We were so impressed by the fan, we bought a second to put over the Kitchen area. (and it went in quicker because if our experience on the first). Note about the Vent cover -- you DO NOT NEED an additional vent cover for this unit. The vent opens up enough where you can operate the fan and let some air out without raising it completely which helps during rain storms. Plus - we couldn't find a version of the additional vent that would actually fit over and not obstruct the operation of the vent raising and lowering. Very happy with the airflow from these vents. Got the versions without the remote control as the fan controls are very reachable by me and my wife.

Generally great, but there's a bug you should know about
There was a problem with the first one I ordered. I don't remember exactly what, but I was supplied with a replacement very quickly, so no complaints. Actually on this score Customer Service gets a good mark. Pretty easy to install, runs nicely, rain handling is great. Where I had trouble is after I installed a solar panel on my system. On a hot, sunny day when I needed it the most, it went beep-beep and shut off. Started it up and it did it again. I realized that the voltage feeding from the solar panel was charging the system at as high as 14.8 volts, so I did some research. Turns out, according to some of the "boards" (reporting data from MaxxAir customer service) that the main board of the fan is only rated up to the mid 13.-- volt range. If it is exposed to 14+ it does what I experienced and can even burn out the control board of the unit. This is a serious design flaw because alternators and solar panels often put out 14+ voltage. The solution (which I have to credit to discussion forums) is to put in a voltage regulator on the circuit the feeds your fan. I tied the linked unit into the feed to my switcher panel that controls the lights, fan, charge ports, and a few other circuits. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WFMKMV9?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details It takes 8v-40v input and outputs a stable 12.1-12.2v output, with to a max of 6 amps, plenty for the stuff I have running off of it. The solar, inverter, and another DC line or two I tie directly to the battery circuit (with a braker switch for things I want to be able to turn off en masse). The fan works great now and I don't have to worry about frying it. It's annoying that this needed to be done, especially without MaxxAir not warning of it, but with this improvement, I think it's the best rooftop vent solution available.

Awesome fan!
This is “the fan.” Works wonderfully. Installed in my bathroom as old vent did not have fan. Probably took a half hour to install after the old unit was off and the area was prepped. The fan is powerful and really moves the air. Great for exhausting shower steam and bathroom odors. If you leave a window open and the fan on high, you will have super ventilation throughout your RV. The unit is quiet, virtually soundless on low speeds, well built and looks great. The electrical leads are extra long which is really nice. Unit arrived on time and was well packed. Good installation instructions. Might buy a second one and install in different area of RV for good push/pull effect on air.

Product defective from the box, absolutely terrible customer service!
I ordered this Maxxfan for my camper van because I have heard nothing but good reviews about them. And I will say, when the fan works, it works great! However, mine only worked for about 5 minutes before the motor blew. I tested the fan the day I got it, and it worked great for about five minutes until all of a sudden it started cutting out, flashing the green light, and beeping very loudly (btw, you cannot cancel this beep, you have to wait till it beeps slowly and loudly about 10 times until it’s done). I looked online and determined this meant there was a voltage issue. Upon checking the voltage at the circuit board, it was anywhere from 13.2 - 13.6, well within normal automotive battery voltage. I tried to get a hold of Airxcel customer support, leaving voicemail after voicemail, and callback numbers, and never heard anything from them. Eventually, I decided to wait on the tech support hold line. I was on hold for over 4 hours when someone FINALLY picked up. The tech support was INCREDIBLY rude to me, when I was nothing but polite to him. He was very short and seemed like he had a bad temper, and that he really didn’t care about my issue. Eventually, he told me that 13.6v is the maximum voltage this fan can handle... what??? A normal alternator will charge a car battery at 14-14.5 volts, if Maxxfan is designing these fans to be used in an automotive setting, which they are, it makes absolutely no sense that they cannot operate above 13.6v!!! I felt this was just a ploy for him to not have to process a warranty claim. Eventually, after nagging him he eventually had me unplug the circuit board and do another test, which determined that the fan motor itself was defective. It was not my fault in any way. I had to basically beg him to send me a new motor under warranty. When he finally agreed, he took my name and phone number and address and told me it will be processed. Not wanting to wait on hold again for 4 hours, and figuring I would possibly never heard from Airxcel again, I asked if he could send me a warranty receipt or confirmation or anything like that via email. The tech literally just said “No, sorry.” That was it. Then I asked him when the motor would ship, and he said “I’m not sure it probably won’t even be ready to ship for another month or so.” Are you kidding me???? This is absolutely the worst customer service for a defective product that I paid $350 for when it was literally in no way my fault. HOPEFULLY my fan motor shows up AT SOME POINT in the future, I have no way of knowing if it even will. Then I will have to take the whole thing apart and install it. After this whole ordeal, I don’t ever plan on buying another Maxxfan product again and I do not recommend anyone else to unless you want to deal with major headaches!!

This is a great fan
I’m the owner of a food truck, and I needed a fan to recycle air. This thing is incredible! Very Silent at most power settings. It recycles air twice in a minute, very easy to install (especially watching some YT videos) and quite neat looking. I’ve installed it using a dc/ac inverter and added an inline fuse. Working perfectly. Can’t comment on longevity, but for the price, but it seems to be great, and the company has good customer support. So, satisfied with the purchase!

Beware of voltage issue! Quiet motor! Many low power settings! Easily runs on solar!
I bought this to replace the garbage Fantastic Fan that came from the factory in my 2018 MyPod camper. First, be aware of the many claims that excessive voltage will kill the circuit board. I haven't had the issue but I went out of my way to install a voltage regulator on the circuit specifically for this fan. I bought a 10 amp (overkill to hopefully last longer) 8-40v to 12 vdc buck/boost converter to ensure the fan never sees more than 12 volts. After using it in all 4 seasons now, including winter (more in that later) with the lid closed. I'm very happy with it. The one I got has 10 speeds, which means 10 levels of power draw. At setting 9 I am able to power this thing without drawing from my battery using 50w of solar panels on the tongue box, which normally gives me <35w in full sun because of the flat mount angle. The lowest settings are dead silent and anything less than setting 7 is <1 amp of draw at 12 volts. On high it makes a fair amount of noise but moves a ton of air. So much air that it's able to keep my uninsulated bright red hotbox of a camper just a few degrees above the outside air temperature even in full July sun. Even my 5000 btu air conditioner struggles to take it much past that - don't buy a red camper without heavy insulation kids. It also works with the lid closed as a ceiling fan which is phenomenal because in the winter I can run it with the heater on to keep nice even interior temps without pulling all my heat out (crack a window for ventilation). As an aside specifically to the mypod, while I do have this installed and leak free I cannot suggest anyone else try this modification to a mypod because the factory one is actually required to hold up the roof/light panel on the interior. This also requires screws from the outside to the inside which the factory one does not, so extra sealing is necessary.
