A very good "old school" portable radio!
We like this radio alot for it's simplicity, convenience, and clean reception (digital tuning) in our rural location. Claimed battery life (4D bats) of 400 hours is a plus if it pans out. The fact that it has a clock is a bonus. Have used Sonys for years (three of the same model), but first impression is that this radio is equal or better at a surprisingly low price!

Excellent Reception and Sound
My work is mobile. No matter where I have gone around town this radio works wonderfully. The reception is great and the sound clear. Great volume control. It's well put together. Very solid and sturdy materials used in its construction. The size is perfect. It carries easily. It's lightweight. I feel for the quality of the radio that it was a good value. I wish I had bought it a long time ago. I've been enjoying my music and talk radio everyday now since I purchased it. I love it.

Update Good Radio
Bought this radio to listen while working. It works really well. Sometimes I have to move it to another place within the office, in order to pick up a station, but overall, very happy with this purchase. In fact, we have purchased two. Worked so well in my office, we bought another for the wife's office. Wil probably buy a third to have at home during hurricane season. Update: We love this radio. Did buy the third for the house. Great value for the money.

Pretty good sounding and working radio.
You know what's weird? I thought I already wrote a review on this. This turned out to be a very good receiver, with good sensitivity in the shortwave bands, which is what I got it for. The display is large and easy to read, but it is a little course in the tuning. You have to have a slow and deliberate hand to find stations with it. It uses DSP tuning so stations just 'pop in', when you hit them. With weaker stations, this can cause them to pop in and out due to skip or frequency drift. There's not really any automatic fine tuning or anything that seems to be able to remedy this with. This radio only tunes am stations in the shortwave bands, NO SSB or anything like that. However those shortwave station you find will tune in pretty well. It does exactly what it is meant to do with a little patience. The AM and FM bands are better than you might think. I can pick up AM station all over the country at night when conditions are right. The FM also has a good set of ears. I'm picking up stations all over the state that other radios don't even register. Tuner implementation is pretty good, with a strong front end, grabbing those far away signals with little trouble. The battery life on the thing is incredible. I have yet to run down my first set. I've had it a while and listen on and off. Every now and then I get the itch to see what's going on in the shortwave spectrum. It also has it's own cord and uses a linear power supply inside, so you don't get RF noise when it's plugged in. It's pretty easy to take places and is well self contained. I've taken it out camping a few times to keep track of news and weather. Plus, away from civilization, the shortwave band is really good. No AC noise from the doings of man, so to speak. I guess the last thing would be the sound quality, and I would say that for its use case, the sound is quite good. It has a proper speaker and I have had no trouble being able to hear both voice and music. Audio is quite good. Hope this helps someone.

Good radio for the money
The radio has a solid feel and sounds good. The digital tuning is a nice feature at this price. The radio also has a time display, but it is only visible when the radio is off. FM reception is good even with the antenna not extended. (I haven't tried AM or short wave.) As you would expect for this price, the radio does not have separate bass and treble controls but it does have a low/high switch. The user manual's explanation ("You can select High/Low tone to listen music or radio as you like") doesn't help much, but you can vary the tone with this switch. This is a good product for the price.

Not worth the money
Maybe this one was defective, but the stations keep fading away with a lot of static

Happy buy
Durable, job site radios don't last that long. So far all is well and large LED digital clock.

Reliable but lacks key features
This is a nice inexpensive radio if you plan to listen to one station primarily during day time. I returned this one because it lacks some critical features I was looking for. The sound quality is very good. Here are the things that are missing. This radio lacks illuminate screen making it difficult to use in the dark. No presets, so you have to tune to each station to change stations. Not rechargeable unlike Sangean PR-D7. I would spend the extra money and get a Sangean PR-D7.
