A great microphone system that delivers at a value price tag.
This is the second Phenyx Pro system that we've purchased for our company - the first was the PTU-5000B. The PTU-4000A is very similar to the PTU-5000B in terms of build quality, so if you’ve ever had the opportunity to use one then you’ll know right away this is a system that’s meant to take a bit of abuse. I’ll be adding a video overview soon, but until then please allow me to elaborate on this system. If this is the first time you’ve experienced owning one of these wonderful systems the handheld mics are made from a decent metal alloy (not too hefty, but not flimsy like plastic). This makes the stick mic feel solid in the speaker’s hand without worry of arm fatigue. At the base of the mic is a push-button on/off switch that powers the unit - located just at the ridge of the battery’s barrel closure. It’s a bit precarious to turn the mic on and off without searching for it, but I feel this is a minor inconvenience at best. The main body of the mic has a taper just above the power indicator screen that fits very nicely in the hand, adding to the grip of the main barrel. Speaking on the indicator screen: each stick mic has a small, clear square that covers the power indicator ‘screen’ that lights up green when the power is turned on. The backlighting is bright without being obnoxious, and it’s a great way to visually check from a distance if the unit is turned on. Even with the power off you can still make out the pre-printed fixed frequency the mic is associated with. There’s other ‘fluff’ visible on the screen, but it’s simply a static image to give the ‘look’ of a more expensive unit. Again, this takes nothing away from the actual performance of the system itself. A nice added feature Phenyx Pro gives you is a set of rubberized, fingered collars that fit snuggly around the barrel of the mic’s body. They’re color coded for easy visual referencing, but the best part is how they’re designed. The finger edges protrude from the barrel just far enough that it mitigates the mic’s mesh head from banging onto, or rolling off, a flat surface should the mic ever be set down (i.e. – being left on a table.) Also, we found there were 8 sets of batteries in the box, so each mic is ready for action immediately. The main unit has a solid metal casing which gives it a feeling of quality and durability. The size of the main unit is 1U, but there are rubber discs mounted to the bottom in the event you want to have it sitting on a mixing table or booth shelf. The unit powers up from a single push-button on the front center of the face. Once the system is turned on the two screens are backlit with the same green glow as you’ll find on the handheld mics. Similarly, the screens are pre-printed with the fixed frequencies and other bits of static information. One thing I noticed was the placement of the LED’s used for backlighting the screens. The lighting effect of the screens was brightest at the ends (presumably where the LED’s are mounting), while the centers of the screens were a bit dimmer than the ends. I could still see the frequency information easily and is in no way a ‘deal breaker’ in my mind, but something others might notice at first glance. There are also red and green indicator lights for each channel – one to show that the mic is turned on, and the other is to show channel activity at-a-glance. Each channel has a dedicated volume knob that is also made from metal alloy. The knob is textured and has a decent quality feel to it. At the back of the unit, you’ll find the connectors for the antenna array, eight individual XLR outputs (one for each channel), as well as a ¼” TS mixed output. This is a great feature to add as there maybe times you want to have individual control over each channel, while at other times you may just need a mixed output (mixing in ambient sound for a venue is the first thing that comes to mind). Phenyx Pro was also kind enough to add a ¼” TS patch cable with the system along with a ¼” to 1/8” adapter. Right from the package the system is ready to be put into service (at least in some capacity) by utilizing the ¼” mixed output. We had a chance to try the system at a live event and I have to say it performed better than the venue’s equipment that was on-hand – at least in my opinion. The venue itself was a split-room conference area that was roughly 60’x 150’ and open. As we were positioned near one corner of the room, we were able to walk the mic to the opposite corner without hearing frequency noise or dropped audio. The specs of the unit say it can handle up to 260’ (open area), and I’d have to say I would believe it. We used the PTU-4000A in conjunction with our PTU-5000B system (making sure there were no frequency sharing issues) because we needed roaming mics as well as bodypacks and didn’t notice any significant issues with crosstalk across the different channels. It IS worth noting that you’ll want to check and ensure you have different frequency sets (A vs. B) if you’re planning to use more than one system. Because our PTU-5000B system is set to different channel frequencies than the PTU-4000A system we were testing there was enough variation not to have any issues. Your mileage may vary, of course. On that note I also want to note some other points of interest. First, it’s possible to purchase bodypacks to use with this system. The bodypacks would take the place of the handheld mic, but if you need eight channels and are looking to have a couple of bodypacks “just in case” this is a great option. I had a chance to chat with their customer service team from their Facebook page, and they pointed me in the right direction on their website to view and order other accessories. Because of the current pandemic please understand there may be some backorder on certain items due to shipping restrictions. And that leads me to my last point: Phenyx Pro’s customer service. I have to say they really do care about their customers and the experience you’re having with their products. I’ve been able to ask questions, request technical help, and provide feedback with members of their team. In each case they’ve treated me kindly, fairly, and had given me the sense they genuinely cared about whatever it was I submitted a question about. In conclusion, if you’re looking for a solid system that’s priced for value without skimping on decent grade quality, I would HIGHLY recommend giving Phenyx Pro’s PTU-4000 series (or, really, any of their product line) a shot.

Excellent Wireless Mics – Great Sound & Reliable!
We purchased this set of 8 wireless microphones for our local church, and they have exceeded our expectations. The sound quality is excellent, even for singing, and we have never had any issues with interference. We tested them from about 100 feet away with multiple walls in between, and they still worked flawlessly. The mics are also very sturdy—they’ve been dropped multiple times and still function perfectly. The only downside is that the batteries are quite difficult to remove, which can be frustrating during quick changes. Other than that, this is a fantastic set, and I highly recommend it for anyone needing reliable wireless microphones!

Surprisingly good
I had no illusions about what this system can do or how it could fit my needs providing sound for the drum groups at powwows. I just wanted to see if i could rid myself of carrying a full bin of xlr cables. It worked really well! As sound tech and emcee i found that these mic picked up the drum singers nicely ( imagine 4+ singers around a 30’ drum all hitting at the same time, if you’ve never been to a powwow ) and I could walk around the arena (circle) for some distance ( 100+ ft ) with no drop in sound . I do wish the on/off wasn’t so small for my hands and i wish they could have a normal cordset rather than the ‘battery replacment plug’ but for these kinda of prices, those complaints are small.

Great for the money!
First off i want to say my band is a huge supporter for Phenyx Pro products. This was shipped to me fairly quickly. After installing this product we tested it out at our next show. Good things about it: Sound quality was superb! Distance with the microphone was amazing and the sleek design made it appealing. Not so good: It seemed to have all one frequency for all the mics. I also feel it should have more antennas than four. Other than that the product was amazing and we will continue to use Phenyx Pro audio in the future.

Impressed
We are only two weeks in on using this, but everyone is impressed. It is being used in an outdoor setting, so can't comment of the finer details of the sound, but they sound really good overall. They are really solid (metal casing), which is great. They all connected fine. We did extend the antenna out the top of a rack case. Another positive noted by some of the singers is that they have less handling noise than some other mics we have used. They don't pick up every little hand movement and bump of the handle. Really happy with them - and we got a few other Phynex products and they all seem better quality than anything else in the price range.

Great mics at a great price
These mics are a great bang for the buck if you get a working set. They sound great (as good as SM58s) for a fraction of the price. Setup is quick and easy, and AA batteries being included is a big bonus. This company has poor quality control but excellent customer service. The first set we recieved had faulty power supply so we replaced it with another set that had a terrible high pitched sound coming out of the unbalanced mix out port. We contacted customer support and they promptly sent us another working replacement and we are very happy with the product now. Recommended but be prepared to recieve a defective unit or two.

Got these mics as a present to our church about a year ago, none has damaged or broken since. It seems it is quite a good quality compared to others bought before.
