Great purchase! Ac30 city
Let me start out by saying I could not be more happy with this pedal if it was given to me for free by Jesus Christ on a Sunday. Period.! The true secret source of this pedal is the bright switch leaving it off. Gives you a good clean time with nothing really sticking out or poking you in the face. But the moment you turn it on you get that stereotypical shimmer jangle chime of a vox the three bandy eq really let you dial in those travels to taste and balanced out the mid and the bottomWith my rudimentary skills, I was easily able to get the correct tone for day tripper, and then minutes later play fat bottomed girls. The only thing wrong with the sound was the player playing in the notes while the frequencies entice me to try harder and harder to get that perfect clarityYou do have to know what you’re buying. This is not a high gain pedal you will not chug. It is not for metal. At least not by itself. When I went for more game distortion by turning the game knob all the way up, I was surprised to find out that it mostly affected the trouble chime and jangle that the vox was known for. It even got to a point that I thought it was going to wake up my roommate, even though the amp was dialed down nice and low because the trouble stuck out that hard. And for anyone that’s just reading this for the responsiveness and dynamics you should know that it is everything you think it will be and probably more. Even with the gang dialed all the way up I was able to get clean tones with gentle touches and rolling back my volume knob And then really. Hammer a high note and make it pierce.I was doing all of this with my fender Mustang GTX, 100 in my opinion and underrated amp, that is not known for its tube like responses

Great OD, but not a modern preamp
Great overdrive, tight knob works well to remove the muddy lower mids as is popular with a modern high gain tone. With gain low works as a boost, turn the gain up and it can serve as a dirt pedal. The cab sim out is serviceable for practice and is handy. The main complaint I have is that when you used as a preamp (there is a switch to choose between using as a pedal into an amp or as a preamp) the tone is not "modern" as advertised, sounds like a jcm 800 type sound - which is pretty good but it's not what they claim it is. If you want a modern high gain preamp pedal I would recommend a revv g3 or g4 over this, but for use as a versatile overdrive and distortion pedal it's great!

Very nice DI problem solver
If you are lazy like me and don't care to tote an amp, this is a great pedal. I bought it to replace my old Vox pedal. Very touch sensitive, so nuances come through. I put a compressor in front of it, and go directly into the board.

Nice! But have a plan
Quality at a premium. Compare it to a $300 combo amp od/distortion, this pedal is crunchy smooth. Built in amp distortion seems gritty and antiquated compared to this lil cranker. Just remember to put it at the front of the am to push the pre amp tubes for greater effect, but you can put it in the loop with modern amps for a more aged sound. Roland companies are on to something with this Nu-tube tech. Kills batteries fast if you leave plugged inline. Its some sort of sleep function but it drained a lithium 9v battery overnight. I am considering returning as i dont have a 9v battery for everyday i play. It shipped fast and arrived without damage.

sounds good
I pluggen it in in front of a Laney tube amp, and got a good metal sound. Lots of gain on tap.

The cheapest best sounding AC30TB amp in a pedal ever made is disappearing
These were just 99 dollars 4 months ago. I barely got one for 99. Now they are becoming scarce and the easy amazon supplies are drying up. And if you are smart and just flip the switch on the top to full amplifier, and leave it there, and push it into your quad Vintage 30 cab or similar, you get the best of all words. The most amazing AC30TB in a box sound ever made, absolutely perfect, by the folks that designed it, with all the dynamics, including the sound of the el84's vibrating in the cabinet with the speakers. This is the one. EF every Brian May version everything. THIS is the one that sounds like an AC30TB for real, clean and dirty, with all the proper dynamics. THIS THING Is Vox's underrated gift to the world and it's absolutely perfect if you just keep it in amp mode and slap it on your board. It's outstanding. It not only acts like the real thing exactly, it's a JOY because of it. You can stack your favorite overdrive pedals in front of it, leave it clean, then drive the tubes into glorious overdrive. You can set it off with a simple booster, it's so amazing. It's an ac30tb in a pedal on your board. It's almost magic. Thank you Vox. Thank you. This is what I needed to finish my dream pedalboard. I wish I hadn't wasted so much time with the ruby.

Sounds like an AC-30 to me!
I love my Vox Mystic Edge AC-30 pedal. For a time, it looked like Vox was stopping production of the Nutube series of effects pedals, but I see that they are back again! Great tone, and very versatile. Vox engineers know how to emulate the Vox AC-30 amplifier.Bob

Underrated
This whole series is underrated, and at the time of this writing, available from Vox itself at $99.The theme of reviews seems to be "really good, really flexible, but nothing special". For me, in preamp mode, all four are unique and special. They are as good as any modeller, but with no latency, since they are real. I bought a spare ($99 from Vox direct) because they have tubes, and I fully expect their lifetime to be shorter than mine.BTW, the oscilloscope is tuned to G. So play a G in tune to really see the waveform without it skewing. It is actually useful, or at least cool, that way.
