Great Cable - But Update The Firmware First!
Initially worked great for flashing my 328i back to a stock tune from Bimmerlabs via the Standard Tools kit, but I did have a few issues when trying to take it to the next level. Before attempting anything, you should seriously consider updating the cable with the updated EdiabasLib firmware. This required some soldering and an Arduino to act as a programmer in order to flash the cable's embedded controller! If you are lost, look up "flashing compatible cable ediabaslib". You should be able to figure it out from there.Only after doing this firmware update was I able to properly get my ECU unbricked and successfully flash the 330i firmware. Overall this wasn't too big a deal once I figured it out, but I thought I'd save the next guy a slight headache.

Works well with included driver but find your own software
This cable does exactly what I needed it to do. I was able to communicate with my car using INPA, EDIABAS, and NCSexpert. My suggestion is to do what I did: find the software you need elsewhere online and only use the included disc to grab the drivers for the USB to serial chip. Doing so will allow you to avoid whatever "virus" warnings that may be triggered by the software on the disc. The drivers included on the disc that came with the package are digitally signed FT232 drivers, not drivers from an unknown source. If you have to rely on the included disc for the software you need to make use of this cable, you probably should not be tinkering with you car using this cable. BMW software is not for the faint of heart and I strongly suggest taking a few weeks to research what you're getting into on multiple forums and read about how to use the software and where to get it.My setup process was as follows: I connected the cable to my laptop and when prompted for a driver, inserted the disc and navigated to the drivers located on it. After a successful driver installation, I installed INPA, WinKFP, EDIABAS, and NCSexpert, which I sourced from other places online (NOT the included disc). I went into the device manager and configured the new serial port to use COM 1 as its identifier. From here, I connected the cable to my car, opened INPA, and was able to read and write to the car easily. Note: I am using an older Dell laptop with 32 bit Windows XP service pack 3 and had no issues with software or driver installation. For what it's worth, I received a cable with a white PCB, not a green PCB. Cable construction feels fine (I'm not a professional shop so I don't plan on gauging this cable's ability to stand up to daily use and abuse) and I expect it to last for what I'm using it for. Overall, I am satisfied with this purchase.

It works, BUT avoid the included CD.
This cable worked perfectly for me once I was able to properly install INPA on my laptop. Not much else to say for a cable, either it works properly or it does not. This one does. And that *could* be the end of this review. However, the package came with more than just a cable. There is an included CD that has some BMW diagnostic software on it. Bonus, right? Wrong. The CD also seemed to include some malware, so I set it aside. *IF* you need to get INPA or some other BMW diagnostic or coding software, simply lookup "Mike's Easy BMW Tools" and look for places where you can safely download those files.I'm not deducting stars for the cable, since that's what I wanted and it worked well for me. However, please be aware that some of the included software is not safe.

Definitely a Waste of Time for Me
Ok, the item arrived in 24 hours, great! It came with very good directions, which I followed to the tee, great! When I connected it to my 2011 BMW 3 E90, it recognized that the battery and ignition were on, great! When I hit shift-F8 to connect to the E90 menu, not so good.Control module errors and a 'busy' error reading on the software until it closed down.Tried very hard to reconfigure, erase files and start over because the cable failed to even be recognized after just a few attempts.Impossible to re-install the software.Clicked on the 'setup' file after removing everything to do with the orginal installation and the re-install would not start.I have the dreaded WHITE circuit-board, which may or may not be the cause of the problem. All I know is that this product is a FAIL, and it's too bad because everything else was more than I expected. It seemed like it would work immediately, but no dice.Buyer beware, and note that you must have a decent knowledge of Windows before taking this on.I have Win 7.1 Professional, which is essentially Windows XP and that's pretty much what you need, although some have posted install instructions for Windows 8.1.Good luck

Use the include disc as art, or to fend off zombies.
First off, the disc is worthless. Some versions of Win may have the appropriate driver already installed. If not, just google them. All i needed this for was check some vestigial codes, and to ensure my transmission fluid was the proper temperature during a service. It worked for clearing codes and showing the temperature values in INPA, and a bunch of firmware levels, so that's well worth the 28$.There's no need to spend a fortune on Carly or some other expensive OBD tool when this works just fine. For the uninitiated, sourcing and installing INPA can be a challenge, but if you can follow directions to the letter, you'll get it installed. As another user said, be mindful of the switch on OBD port side of the dongle. If you have it in the proper position, you'll have a green light in INPA.
