How long will this board last? Do I have to do anything special to maintain it?

Never put your cutting board in the dishwasher. Never leave your cutting board sitting in water. Store the board upright to dry or for long term storage; don't leave it flat on a countertop. Use a board conditioner, food grade mineral oil, or whatever they choose to send with their boards, after every couple uses; after every use if you're using soap to clean it. If you notice the board starting to warp slightly, flip the board over; this likely happened because the board was left wet on a countertop and it dried out unevenly (top before bottom). Oil the board a couple times a day for like a week right after you get it since it's probably dry since it's sat in an amazon warehouse for a while. If you do that, your board will last quite a while!

this board looks grey? is it or is there a color selection option ?

Hi Kevin!Thanks so much for reaching out with your question.The short answer is that the board is a very light brown only until it's been seasoned to its final dark brown color.The slightly longer answer is this:What you see in the first photo is how the board as you receive it. We intentionally send you your board unseasoned and in its pure raw walnut wood form, hence the very light brown color you see in the picture. We do this because we fundamentally believe that the type of oil or seasoning solution used on the board should remain a choice of our customers (though we do offer an all natural coconut oil suggestion in How To instructions that come with each board).But the board absolutely needs to be seasoned before its first use. Once it is, it takes on the rich chocolate brown color you see in the second photo on the listing page. We also offer some side by side comparisons in other photos to show you the unseasoned "before" in contrast to the seasoned "after."Once the board's been seasoned, it will keep the "after" chocolate brown color unless it hasn't been seasoned for years and dries out completely... which is really unlikely to happen if the board is used often.Alas, there are no real color options for this board at the moment, but we are looking into making similar boards in other wood species that can yield different types of board colors too.Anyways, I hope this helps explain things a bit, and thanks so much again for your question!The Virginia Boys

Bretter aus amerikanischen Walnußholz in dieser Größe sind nie billig. Dieses ist vom Preis durchaus im niedrigeren Bereich angesiedelt. Die Verarbeitung ist perfekt, beide Seiten sind einwandfrei geschliffen, die Saftrille ist sauber gefräst. Das Brett kommt übrigens -auch laut Beschreibung- vorbehandelt, laut Beipackzettel mit Kokosöl. Ich bevorzuge Leinöl, da dieses aushärtet, das Brett habe ich daher direkt nochmal nachbehandelt. Einen Geruch nach Essig, wie viele hier schreiben, hat mein Brett nicht. Natürlich ist es nicht geruchsneutral, es riecht halt nach Holz! :-) Amerikanisches Walnußholz hat übrigens einen ähnlichen Härtegrad wie Kirschholz (Brinell ca. 2,9) und ist somit deutlich weicher als Bambus, Eiche, Akazie oder Buche. Perfekt zum messerschonenden Schneiden! Sicher wird man auf Dauer Schnitte sehen können, aber es ist ja auch ein Arbeitsgerät und kein Wohnzimmertisch! Wer -wie ich- Spaß an schönen Küchenutensilien hat wird am diesem Brett sicher seine Freude haben. Kaufempfehlung!

j ai acheté cette planche a découper car je n avais plus de planche les les miennes se cassaient facilement et la pour la découper de mon poulet enchanté elle est très grande avec une rigole le long pour la sauce .

The chopping board was packaged really well (not too much, not too little) and the box came in super handy when it came to seasoning the board. I kept it in there while I was doing it so I didn’t get the coconut oil everywhere. It’s really easy to clean, (just give it a wipe over) I then leave it leaning up against the side so it dries properly. The wood is beautiful, It looks good in my kitchen. A lovely piece, it will last some time........well worth the money

Esteticamente è molto carino. Il suo essere in legno, lo rende da un lato molto solido e compatto, allo stesso tempo molto robusto. Quando viene lavato, si asciuga molto rapidamente ed emana un fantastico odore di legno. Un po' caro, ma ne vale la pena. Consigliatissimo
