Babies Don't Eat Pizza: A Big Kids' Book About Baby Brothers and Baby Sisters Review: A unique book about new babies! - This is a great book for older kids or just younger kids who are particularly smart and interested in the whole baby thing! It’s probably best for kids age 5-7 but my 3.5 year old daughter was absolutely enthralled, because she’s been so into the doctors role in all this. The book goes into nice detail about babies that most books don’t, such as how their birth hair can fall out and grow back another color. Many reviews mention the birth page, so I included a photo. I loved this page because my daughter was and new baby will be born via c-section and I’ve struggled with how to explain this to a curious 3 year old who can only otherwise guess that the baby would come out of my belly button, lol! The explanation in the book was perfect! Accurate but not graphic. If you’re looking for something super cutesy, rhyming, or for a 2 year old, this isn’t the book for you. It’s not baby-ish. It’s very informative, while still being for children. The illustrations are cute but the main attraction is the written word. If your child is especially curious about birth and babies this is a great book! It also talks about all the things big siblings can do with babies and how parents still love the older kids after baby arrives. Review: Covers everything you need to talk about - Very thorough and realistic. Covers everything from birth, feeding, crying, up to growing into a toddler and the changes and challenges of that. Talks about both positives and difficulties of having new baby in the home, opening up conversations with your kids about what to expect and get their thoughts and questions. Some funny parts and cute illustrations to keep kids engaged. Led to some good talks with my 7 year old about his new baby brother coming soon.

PERFECT for older children (4-7)! (Not for younger children.)
My son is four and a half so I was looking for a book that was geared toward older children. He understands the idea of having a baby brother as he has many friends with baby brothers and sisters, but I thought I should get him a book about it too so that he could learn a little more and because he loves to read. This is GREAT! First, it has a few details about birth that he doesn't know. He loves to learn new things and asks questions constantly. Second, it was somewhat challenging for him to read! I thought he would be bored with an easy book (he usually is). He got through this one fairly quickly but there were a lot of new ideas and new words! ("Uterus" took him a while to sound out, and I had to help him with "womb" as it doesn't follow basic rules!) One negative thing though is that he really gets through chapter books for kids much quicker than he got through this book, which makes me think that it might be a little more difficult than the average book for this age. (It's not even a chapter book.) Either way he understood it and we were able to talk about it after he finished reading different sections. I'll be reading it to him some too, which I would recommend doing at least for the younger kids in the range I have suggested. I would not recommend this book for younger children. It is definitely geared toward the older child. I would recommend it for ages 4-7. I know that the majority of people who have more than one child will do so before their first is in that age range, but for those of us in the minority THIS is the book to choose. :)

A bit long for my 4 year old but super informative
This covers everything and I thought it was perfect for my 4yo son who is having some trepidation about having a new sister soon. However, what I love about it, my sister-in-law was mildly horrified by... I like that it covers the basics--how the baby grows inside the uterus, how it is born, and then what it does through the first year or so. Nothing explicit, nothing involving where babies come from... However, my SIL's 7 year old niece saw the book and read it to herself. At one point she exclaimed "Oh so that's how it happens," and she quoted the book "the baby is born either through an opening between the mother's legs or through a cut on her belly" (I'm paraphrasing here). SIL snatched the book away and was pretty pissed at me. I had no problem reading that to my son, because that is how it happens. It's not sexual... they don't even say "vagina," but she didn't like that. So fair warning to the more conservative among you. It also shows a baby breastfeeding--I loved it, but again, you might not be comfortable discussing that with your kiddo, so....

Realistic, encourages conversations
Great! Bought it for our five year old, who will be a big sister in a couple weeks. It covers EVERYTHING, without going into gruesome detail (the baby eats and breathes through the umbilical cord, and is pushed out through an opening between moms' legs, or lifted out through a special cut made by a doctor in moms' bellies). Love that it covers that newborns are weird-looking, and don't understand that it hurts when they pull your hair. It also emphasizes that Older Sibling will still get love, attention, and hugs after the baby comes home, and that it's normal to have LOTS of different feelings about the new baby. Just be sure to discuss them with your parents. Reading this book aloud with our daughter has encouraged her to ask a lot of great questions that I don't think she would have felt comfortable with earlier, and I feel like she's a lot more prepared for the transition now. I will definitely be recommending it to my friends who are expecting!

Very informative and beautiful book. My almost-four-year-old seems to like it. I like the accurate information presented. It covers all things expected about having a new baby. Nice glossy print as well.

Nice and colourful book with a lot to speak about with your older child. It considers different options (e.g. Breastfeeding and bottle) so it's quite complete. I was very happy to have purchased it.

I bought this for our 8 year old son who will be 9 by the time our baby arrives. I was aware that the book stated it was for older children but was concerned that with it being picture book style it might be too babyish for our son. I took the chance given the good reviews it already had. My son loves the book as do my husband and myself. It has plenty of text, an appropriate level of description and the humour is a great way of taking a light hearted approach to the potentially challenging event of welcoming a new baby into a family. The book does use a couple of words like "diaper" and "bassinet" which are American terms but our son was aware that a diaper was a nappy from watching American made TV shows and it was easy enough to explain that a bassinet is like a crib or cot.

This is a really excellent book for the older kiddos. It discusses a huge variety of topics while keeping things simple enough to understand. The book walks you through where babies come from to what happens when they arrive to what older siblings can do with baby and even discusses tough emotions like jealousy and not wanting baby. It also touches on some of the less expected topics such as adoption, which made me very happy to see! I’m very much looking forward to reading this one with my little dude! I expect it will be perfect for him at 8years old to understand and open some dialogue.

Most sibling books are geared towards toddlers but my son is almost 5.5 years old and he loves this book. Highly recommend along with the little critters book Me and my Little brother.
