Not the best, but worthwhile game play
I read several reviews that did not like the campaign, but I enjoyed the campaign. Perhaps the storyline was not as strong, but the gameplay, graphics and action were good.

Everything about this game is polished and refined - weapons are near-perfectly balanced and offer tons of variety, new spartan abilities add a frenetic pace to the standard Halo formula while still being balanced and staying true to the series, and the variety of fun game modes (along with constant updates, and Forge which will be coming soon for free) offers plenty for everyone. The campaign is a bit short and may be confusing for series newcomers, but long time fans will definitely appreciate the superb sci-fi storytelling and the improvements to combat, though friendly AI still leaves some to be desired. In multiplayer, Arena mode takes standard modes and adds small twists as well as a variety of excellent maps to buttery smooth matchmaking and 60fps gameplay, along with a new single-life mode Breakout which adds some additional variety. Warzone takes 12v12 online battles and adds multiple objectives and scoring methods to make a diverse and chaotic battlefield, along with the use of the new REQ system which is both incredibly useful and addicting, and as is the norm with this game, it seems incredibly balanced. All in all, Halo 5 is easily the best shooter of 2015 and feels like a much needed leap forward for the Halo franchise. A must buy for any FPS player

I was pretty disappointed to see that there is no split screen mode! You need 2 xboxes to play coop with your girlfriend / wife / friends. I have 2 xbox ones, and I can't even play because I bought the disk version, you need the DIGITAL version to play coop mode with someone in your house with 2 xbox ones. That was a let down :( Halo 3 had an incredible campaign, I was expecting something on par with that. I felt like it was too short, and that they were really putting all of the effort into multiplayer, which is pretty fun. I don't like that you have to buy packs of cards with REAL MONEY in order to use the better weapons and items. Still a 4 out of 5 game though.

Phenomenal game. Three things can be said about this title: 1. Excellent multiplayer - without question the best Halo MP we've ever had. The new controls and abilities make the game so much fun. 2. Don't believe the hate - the whole game, even the campaign is great, really, it is. 3. Don't believe the hype - the campaign is NOT what they marketed it to be - to put it without spoilers, let's just say that the whole marketing campaign for this game builds up to be completely superficial when it comes to the actual campaign. So, in my opinion, the best Halo game since Reach. Worth owning. I am really enjoying these free content updates we're getting from 343. I am looking forward to Big Team Battle in MP and also Forge when it releases later next month - it promises to be the greatest, grandest and most innovative forge yet. Pick it up!

I've been a fan of the Halo series for a while - I was really disappointed by this game. I've always been drawn to Halo for the amazing single-player campaign stories that have been told. In the last 2 instalments, I've felt a deep connection to Chief and Cortana, and been compelled and thrilled by the plot twists. I have no idea who Spartan Locke is. I guess the Oni are from some of the side titles I haven't played. I do recognize Buck from ODST but there's so much going on in this plot that's brought in from the extended universe that I no longer felt that strong connection to Chief and Cortana - who have always been the heart of the series. So I was really disappointed and disinterested in the plot for story mode. Plays like a Halo game, but the shooter mechanics are easily outclassed by gunplay in other games I've played lately (Namely Destiny and Rainbow Six Siege) - so I found the gunplay boring. The story missions didn't have enough variety in objectives either. It seems like too many revolved on simple "clear wave to proceed" gameplay. The multiplayer is still pretty great, and I actually really liked WarZone - but I HATE the REQ pack system - and I don't want to play a game that makes me feel like I should be spending lots of money on micro-transactions. I don't care enough about this game to spend more money on it. After finishing story mode once, I took it to EB Games and traded it in to purchase Rise of the Tomb Raider.

I'm a huge Halo fan, enjoying both the SP and MP components of the game. I'm specifically focusing on the SP component for this review as I feel that you'll probably already have a good sense if Halo MP is your cup of tea or not. Halo 5 splits the campaign between two protagonists, Master Chief and Spartan Locke. While the play styles are very similar, Locke feels like a knock off, cut down version of MC. We are expected to believe that they are equals, yet the entire franchise has focused on the extraordinary abilities of one of them, so it never gels as well as it should. There are a lot of cool standout moments which I don't want to spoil, but somehow the rest of the combat feels formulaic and by the numbers. Perhaps it is just that the rest of the FPS genre has caught up with what made Halo so special. This wasn't helped by the fact that I had just completed the Titanfall 2 SP beforehand, which wall runs all over the Halo 5 campaign. Movement in Halo 5 feels stiff and rigid in comparison, which may make sense thematically but dulls the fun somewhat. I don't want to go into too much detail about the story, but in the grand scheme of the lore it felt more like filler content rather than a grand adventure. The ending builds to an interesting place, but it meanders on its way to the conclusion. It's certainly not a bad SP FPS, but unfortunately my expectations were pretty high going in after enjoying the other games in the franchise so much. Here's hoping the inevitable Halo 6 can recapture some of that MC magic.
