Impressed So Far
It's been over a week since I installed the water cooler. For over 7 years we had home delivery of large water bottles which I would have to change out on the dispenser every few days. Positives: -Water tastes every bit as good as the bottled water -No more big bottles to lug around and no more dealing with the water company delays or delivery issues -Should be much more cost effective in the long run depending on how often we need to change out the filter (but should be good if it goes like they specify) -Pretty easy to install assuming you have a good location for the unit -Water is pretty cold Negatives -Fairly large up front investment but it should work out -Install could be tricky if you don't have a good location -It can be more loud than others may prefer - it doesn't bother us one bit -The water is not as cold as the cooler but honestly its plenty cold for us and our guests -Filters are pricey but all water filters are surprisingly expensive -Water comes out a bit more slow than cooler but honestly not a big deal As you can see, the negatives are a stretch - we like this cooler a bunch so far but we shall see if it stands the test of time.

Was a great unit - until it stops working properly in one of several ways. Do not buy this.
Looks and works well. The only thing i wish is that there was an auto mode to fill glasses to a certain amount - 12oz? - without having to hold the buttons down. No other complaints. This is good water. FINAL OUTCOME: Unit is scrapped. Replaced it with a Drinkpod 1000 series from Home Depot (oddly that model not available here on Amazon). The Drinkpod even has the auto mode and has been flawless for several weeks. Fingers crossed. Read edits for the full saga. EDIT: the unit's flow rate fell to near 0 less then 8 weeks after installation. checked/double checked, all is as it should be. so far, emailing their customer support has yielded crickets. I cannot recommend anyone purchase *anything* from Avalaon. Very disappointing. EDIT 2: Avalon's support dept finally did respond and provided troubleshooting instructions involving opening it up and messing about with internal filters etc. The thing is 2 months old, used with pre-filtered water. This should not be something I should need to diagnose. Send a replacement, take this thing back, diagnose to your heart's content. Anyway, super disappointed and cannot recommend. EDIT 3: They eventually did send us a new unit which we haven't installed yet, so adding a couple stars back. EDIT 4: Replacement unit is installed and worked great for a few weeks. Then it started randomly beeping like mad every 20 mins or so. It turned out to be some water sensor which thinks the unit is leaking internally, even though it actually wasn't. Support made me buy a fix kit since it is out of warranty. It was like 15 bucks so I didn't care that much. Replaced the part with nice instructions they have on their website and all was well for a few more months. Then, the unit started dripping continuously from the cold dispenser nozzle -- slow drip but enough so we had to leave a cup under it at all times, and even then the cup sometimes overflowed and made a big watery mess on our countertop, into drawers and cabinets below. Customer support said that is a non replaceable part, so we finally decided to scrap it. Do not buy one of these units. You've been warned.

A good option for home or small business use
If you're looking for a water cooler/heater for home or small business use, this is a pretty good option. With its relatively compact size, it isn't hard to find space for it. Because it connects to plumbing, there are no bottles to worry about. Capacity is somewhat limited, so I wouldn't recommend it for a larger office, but Avalon seems to have options for that as well. Aesthetics are very consumer friendly, which is a nice touch for home use. Noise levels are acceptable. The fan can be a little loud, but not obnoxious in my opinion. The filtering component seems to work pretty well. I've been using water from this to fill my humidifier, and unlike my regular tap water, it doesn't seem to yellow the wick/filter. The taste is very clean, as you'd imagine and it is able to get the water satisfactorily cold. I've encountered colder water coolers, and there appears to be absolutely no way to adjust the thermostat unfortunately like you'd get with other coolers, but it's definitely cold enough. Really, my biggest complaint is actually with the packaging. It's a nightmare to recycle. While I understand why a product such as this would necessitate the use of styrofoam, which most places can't recycle, my real concern is that it's glued to the cardboard with a very strong adhesive. This makes it near impossible to really separate. To add insult to injury, staples are used on the box in places they don't appear to be necessary. This means removing them which is doable but annoying. This certainly isn't a reason to NOT buy this product, but it's something I'd appreciate improvement on. Otherwise, the design of the packaging does seem smart and well thought out. Overall, if you're looking for a home-use or small business use water cooler, this water cooler will definitely get the job done, and I'm pretty happy with it!

Updated review.
Really like the direct line piping, filters are pricey, but aren't they all for good quality! So the unit started leaking in 2024. I originally purchased in 2021. I was pretty upset cause this is my go to for RV trips as I keep it in the RV. However, I reached out to avalon. It was not still under warranty but they helped me identify the problem, recommended a part, had me pay for the part, gave me detailed instructions to replace it, and had it to me within 2 days. The replacement was easy and we are back in good water business!! Thank you very much avalon! I will be a repeat customer.
