What is the benefit of this vs the cheaper pst-6? besides the two extra plugs, anything?

The PST-8 and PST-6 are very different products, with the PST-8 being the superior unit. The PST-8 is the lowest priced Furman surge protector/power conditioner that has Furman's series mode surge protection and more advanced filtering. These features appear to be implemented with same circuit boards and components as the larger and much more expensive Furman units. The PST-8, while clearly not inexpensive, appears to be the value choice among the advanced Furman units. If you want the more advanced Furman features, then the PST-8 is the clear choice between the two units.

How does this compare to zerosurge or brickwall brand surge protectors? I need a quality surge protector.

The pst-8d has two extra digital filtered banks. Go to furman website and read on it. Not coaxial.

Does this have an internal circuit breaker? How many amps?

The only reference to an internal circuit breaker in the manual is on page 6: Circuit Breaker If the PST-8 is connected to an AC outlet where sufficient voltage is present, the unit should operate properly with the protection OK indicator lit, after the main power switch is turned to the on position. If the unit still does not function under these conditions check the circuit breaker button! It is the round black button adjacent to the incoming AC cord. If the circuit breaker trips immediately, there may be too great of a current load placed upon it. Simply disconnect one product at a time until this no longer happens. If the breaker trips with no components connected, there may be a wiring defect that requires Furman service. From page 3: 4. The PST-8 should only be connected to a 120 VAC, 60Hz, 15 amp grounded electrical outlet. Do not defeat the ground or change polarization of the power plug. Look for the upgrade pick for "top-of-the-line" equipment. Some of the technology in the Furman unit is licensed from Zero Surge. You can learn a lot about surge suppressors at their Website. I have both Zero Surge models and the Furman Power Conditioner PST-8. The Furman unit has not been subjected to any major surges. Years ago, the apartment next door to mine had a direct hit from lightning. Most of my electronics were plugged into Zero Surge devices, and were not harmed. The things that were not were damaged.
