Great inexpensive upgrade
Based on some Y-Tube recommendations, bought this to replace the stock stem that came on my Schwinn Al Comp, which is closer to 80mm, in order to get my handlebars just a touch closer for a more upright riding position.Stem was shipped and arrived quickly. It's definitely not a looker by any means - it's about as utilitarian looking as my stock big box stem, and it's significantly heavier than the stem I replaced. But for my usage (mountain bike used around town and light off-road for fitness) I'm not worried about looks or weight. My priorities were cost, size (short stem), and durability, and this covers all those bases.Install was a breeze - taking the old stem off, putting this new one on, and getting everything aligned took maybe 15 minutes while drinking my morning coffee. Screws threaded evenly and without issue, and I didn't need to change any of my spacers vs stock stem. Everything seems solid, and based on its beefiness and weight, I'm thinking long term durability should be no problem. If you're looking for something light, or svelte, this might not be your best choice. But for the price, this is a great option for a short stem that feels built to last. Can't comment on how it would hold up to heavy abuse, since I have no plans for that kind of riding, but it feels like it could take some hits - your mileage may vary.Hope that helps!

$8 stem?! Amazingly, not bogus.
Seems to be one of those rare gems where going cheap doesn't get you a turd product, not much to go wrong with on a solid block of forged aluminum I guess. The bolts are not buttery smooth going in, but it wasn't an issue. The front plate is maybe a little dorky but overall the stem has a good, understated look. Those are the only downsides. It fits snug onto my 1.125" steerer tube (with oversize bolts there) and clamps hard onto my 31.8mm bar. With that basic job done, it also has a top notch anodized finish and good looking logo placement. The center-center length is 35mm as advertised, and the stack height is about 45mm as I measure it. Visually, the stem looks like it has rise but it's actually pretty much center.EDIT: After about a year of use, no problems. This is a solid hunk of aluminum, it's totally bombproof. And fun fact, asked a cyclist friend how much he thought I paid for it, he guessed $80. :D

Good for the price
First off, this is an $8 stem so you shouldn't be expecting anything amazing. With that being said it is a pretty good part for the price. Like others have said it's on the heavy side since it's made of cast aluminum as opposed to billet. I ended up purchasing it as a test stem to see if i liked the length before purchasing a more expensive/lighter one. Installation is pretty straight forward for the most part.*Things to note- Make sure you use some kind of grease on all the contact points to ensure everything gets torqued to spec- before installing the stem thread the bolts all the way in and out of the holes a few times to clear all the extra machining debris. Make sure to clean everything after.- Use a torque wrench to evenly torque all the bolts! uneven torque specs can cause the bolts to snap or threads to strip

Built like a tank ...or for a tank
Don't kid yourself, this thing is HEAVY. That's not a problem in my case since I have it installed on a dedicated trainer frame. The hardware that comes with it is quality too so I don't hesitate recommending it.

Bavel 30mm stem well worth the money
Took a chance and bought 2, one for my wifes bike that she mostly uses to ride concrete trails and our fat bike. I was fully expecting to have to chase the treads on some of the holes as noted in some of the other reviews. Shipping was quick so no issues there and I did have to chase the threads on every screw hole but I have had to do this for some of the holes on other more expense items I have purchased over the years so it was not a big deal. What I wasn't expecting was how beefy and stocky these stems are. They are as good as the expenive 40mm one (TruvatIv Hoizfeller) I bought for my MTB and I wish I had tried these first. Based on price, fit and how stocky they are these were 5 star items for me.

Watch those threads!
I'll first say that this looks to be a really beefy stem. The weight difference above a higher-end stem is nominal, and worth it in my opinion, to not have it break on you at the worst time. The length is great too. Combined with wide handlebars for greater leverage, your bike should handle better especially downhill. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars, is because the one I received could have been considered defective. The four faceplate bolts were only just started by hand to hold the stem together, and were so difficult to tighten with an allen wrench that I suspected some of them were cross-threaded. The two larger bolts which secure the stem to steerer tube were fine, and would even thread in by hand easily. I really needed this stem right away, so chose to chase the threads with a tap instead of waiting for a defective exchange. The bolts will go in much easier now, but still require an allen. I suspect that because the stem is apparently cast, it will tap out good for the larger bolts but just can't handle the finer threads. I'll be using loctite on the bolts and try not to remove the handlebar often, as I'm sure the threads will eventually strip. If you're willing to chase threads like I did, or wait for an exchange, this stem is well worth the money!
