Ultimate Trail Dog Pack, Large, Black

I have used this twice now. So I can't speak for its long term quality. However, it feels like a quality product and I expect it to last a long time. I have a black lab and he can carry all his own water and food on our hikes. I took him on a 13 mile hike with a 3700ft assent. I had to give him water more frequently because it was more work for him to carry all the weight. I've read that a dog can carry up to 1/3 their weight. The two comfort straps that go under his belly stayed in place just fine. The one in front moved around a bit but I don't think my dog was uncomfortable at any point. I put three water bottles plus other things in each side. As the trip went on I used water from the sides evenly so that the bag would stay balanced.I'm very happy with the product. Be careful, measure your dog and read the specifications on the sizing guide. My dog was just between a medium and a large so I went with the large. I had the chance to fit him with one at a store before I bought it online.I recommend this product.Please click "Yes" below if you found this review helpful!Update: My dog and I did a 16 mile hike with a 5,800 ft assent. He carried eight 12 ounce water bottles just fine.Update: 11/01The product has FAILED. The strap that holds the saddle bag to the vest where it meets the bag came undone. It's not quite a tear, but the threading that holds the strap to the bag came undone. It lasted a total of 40 miles over four steep hikes. It looks like a design flaw that can be preempted. When purchased you can enforce the sewing itself where the strap meets the seam inside the saddle bag. Given that the there is no damage just undone threading it looks like I can sew it back together. I still really like the product and I hope after my attempted fix it will have a long life.

This is a great pack and perfect for our days on the trail. Cooper is only 6 months and about 60 lbs. The large pack works but it may be a bit big. He will grow into it. He can now carry all of his own supplies and even some of ours with the large compartments. There are plenty of pockets. It is well constructed with durable fabric and adjustable straps. It is comfortable for Cooper too.

I purchased this backpack as a gift. I had it personalized and the owners loved it. It was perfect fit. I bought a medium for a 50 dog. The dog doesn't mind wearing it and he carries his own supplies. The gray ribbing is glow in the dark as well as the pocket pulls. It's great for hiking or a day at the beach.

Seems to be a good design, bags don't flop around when the dog is running. Handsome and well made. Only problem so far is the strap padding slides around, but that was easily fixed by velcroing them in place on the straps after sizing adjustments were made. My dog took the largest size (he's 120 lbs with a 38 chest) and it fits very well with plenty of strap adjustment left if he gains weight. And he loves his backpack! This will be used for overnight hiking trips.

My 1.4 yo, 60 lbs rescue chewed through the last pack but has no problems with this one. We hike Washington mountains with this and she is allowed comfort and freedom of movement due to the very soft material surrounding the understraps and the pillow-like neck pad. She runs freely without issue and never gets annoyed with the straps. I am able to pick the dog up by the top handle without her resisting or being distressed. This is a superb product.As with most packs balancing the wait is important but she carries her own water, some for me plus a few items of mine without issue. Great product.

Edit: after using this some more (and no longer using it at all) it does not matter how little I have in the packs if there is anything and it is not 100% identical weight on both sides it sags horribly to the heavier side. I'm not talking water bottles or anything, I'm talking a pack of poop bags on one side and a pair of rubber gloves on the other side. When I used it empty (to get the dog used to wearing the packs) it worked great. I would keep looking, I hear Ruffwear makes a reliable pack.Original review: I really like this pack and it doesn't bother my puppy for her to wear it. But no matter how well I balance the weight in the bags out always pulls to one side. The removable bags are great, I take them off if she makes a friend and they start playing.There is lots of room in the bags, even pockets within the bags.

This is a quality product at a reasonable price. Agree with other reviews that say it can twist on your pup...You have to pack it with that in mind. But, that said, it fits our 50 lb shepherd/shar pei mix comfortably when other more expensive brands did not. Love that the saddlebags are removable, as well! I'd recommend this product to others.

Very nicely made and it fits very well. There are lots of pocket and slots to put things so Kodi will be carrying some of my things in addition to his own. heheh
