Kamado Joe Stainless Steel Grill Grate Expander to Expand Cooking Space and Indirect Cooking for Big Joe 24-inch Charcoal Grill and Smokers, Model BJ-SCS

Bought this for my Kettle Joe, as I can't seem to find any of the half moon grtaes thiat fit it anymore. This fits perfect on the basket that holds the ceramic tiles, as I was looking to run a water tray for long cooks. For reverse sears, it makes changing modes pretty easy. Just take the whole slo-roler off and use this as the low grate for searing. No need to handle the grates at all. Still, it's really expensive for just this, even with the quality being as good as it is. It has a nice weight to it, and feels very solid and well built.

Like most KJ parts, it's heavy and well put together. really glad I could expand an already large grill!

You will wonder how you ever got along without the grill. They are meant to increase your cooking area yes and they will. However, they provide for a third tier cooking level. Example. I used the heat deflector to hold a water tray. I'll be getting an 18 by 2 cake pan for my steam bath. This gave me the perfect distance from the water to keep three prime rib roasts moist for several hours. I also have used the additional distance it provides from the coals to roast 3 chickens without a problem. (350 Degs for about an hour or intil 165 Degs) you definitely need this if you have a Kamado

Nice item to increase the area in the kamado joe. Works well to place ribs on top and still have a brisket on the main level.

Buy beware. The grill expander I received today had the prongs facing the wrong way and renders it unusable. Sending it back ASAP. Revised: User error!! When setting it up like the picture on the box, I mistakenly put the single prong side back further on the grill then what the product design allows. The product both works and performs as advertised.

This works great so you may wonder why 4 stars, mostly because 4.5 is more appropriate. It is a bit difficult to align on the rack and it isn't tall enough to have big cuts underneath. However, if you need to find a way to get 40-50# of pork butt on your Big Joe, this will do it.

This is a MUST add-on if you BBQ for large crowds. You will definitely need this for the extra real estate it gives to cook additional food. Its stainless steel and very easy to clean and fits perfectly into the KJ original grill set.

The legs are made to straddle parts of the base grill but do not align well and can be unstable.
