Great condition

I really enjoyed this book. It answered a lot of questions that were left unanswered throughout the series. The only thing I didn't like was that the author introduced new characters that I didn't care about and added nothing to the series. I would have rather had another short story about the characters that we had all grown to know and love in the series.

Oh my god, I really didnt know how much I had missed Mare, Cal and evangeline until i read this book. SO MANY FEELINGS! This is what clousure feel like, we got to read about the aftermath of what happened in War storm, I’m greedy so i wish we could have more in detail of how the next several years developed but I guess that would require a few extra book. I laugh reading Firelight Cal and Mare could never be boring! I did almost cry on that last chapter where Cal viisted Maven 😭******SPOILERS AHEAD******I’m so happy Kilorn will have a brillant future and Mare and call lived long enough to see their kids grow. OMG how I wish we could get more stories about them as parents! It would have been hilarious!I’m content knowing the Mare and Cal got the HEA and that will be enough. I’m sad we might never get new stories about these dear characther, its always been a well written story but so many emotions. I feel sad its over but its certainly a story worth reading many times over.

I love this book so much, especially since I am a marecal stan :) Just a warning for some that don't like history lessons or think they are boring, there are some history lessons in between the short stories that I believe are narrated by Julian Jacos. So if you don't like history lessons, you might want to just skip them. But overall for me, I love this book and the rest of the series!P.S. This is the 5th book concluding the series. I recommend getting the rest of the series and reading it before you read this. The rest of the books are listed below from 1-4:Red Queen, Glass Sword, King's Cage, War Storm.

First a note on the format: I read this book on kindle, so the formatting was weird. Things that I assume were written as footnotes (or margin notes, maybe?) ended up at the end of paragraphs without any clue to what precisely they referred to, so you just had to kind of guess. At first, the book reads like something Julian has compiled, but that falls away and the. You just don’t know anymore. I assume the print version would have had clearer textual markers, but the kindle version is sloppy.As to the content? I probably wouldn’t have paid the full price. There’s a short story about Coriane, one about Farley, and one about another Silver and Red duo that takes place peripherally to some other events, but doesn’t contain anyone from the others. While it’s interesting, it’s more like the start of an adventure novel rather than anything that can really stand on its own. Another portion of the book, maybe the last 28% is Mare and Cal, and as others said, it would have been better suited as an end to the fourth book, rather than that bizarre ending we had. However, don’t go in expecting closure in the story. There is a *bit* of closure in the last 2% that goes into what happens briefly (like a wiki article on the next 20 years of Montfort/Norta/Lakeland’s wars) but basically it’s just a few sentences.I loved the original 4 books, and own the kindle versions, but unless you are a completist, I would just check this one out at the library. It’s probably better in that format anyway. While I understand the author’s desire for the characters to be realistic and complex, it’s still fiction and most people want things to be ended in a satisfying way. We live in reality that can be unsatisfying, so we read fiction that places it’s characters in difficult or horrific situations because we want to see them overcome them - because it gives us the readers a sense of overcoming too.

Broken Throne by Victoria Aveyard is a compilation of novellas and related ephemera relating to the Red Queen YA fantasy series. This book contains some journal entries, “reports”, and timeslines, plus five novellas. Queen Song explores the story of Cal’s mom Coriane. Steel Scars follows Diana Farley as she meets Shade Barrow. World Behind is about Lyrisa, a princess of Piedmont. Iron Heart follows Evangeline as she abdicates her Rift crown and establishes her new life. Fire Light is the story of what happens when Cal heads to Montefort and spends some time with Mare.The Lovely: I liked the back story on Cal’s mom and seeing a bit more of Cal and Mare’s relationship.The Mundane: None of the novellas or the additional information really develops the current cast of characters (with the exception of maybe Evangeline).The Dreadful: This book didn’t really do anything to help me feel like the characters stories were wrapped up. There is a whole novella about Cal and Mare, yet, there’s still no good conclusion of their relationship.Rating: 2/5 StarsRecommendation: This would be an easy book to skip without missing much of the additional story. Pretty meh honestly. There is a bit of pre-calamities history (what we would call modern times) if that’s of interest, and how the world progressed from modern times to that of Norta and the other regions.

I think that everyone who finished War Storm felt unsatisfied and hoodwinked with the abrupt, confusing ending (I was shaking my Kindle like "Where's the rest?!?". But Broken Throne provided the closure that I felt was missing from War Storm. As always the writing was beautiful, creating images and feelings familiar and unknown. I also liked the side stories to see how this war affected others and how that was also shaping the rest of the world.Although a lot of people probably glanced through the histories, I enjoyed reading it and getting more backstory to the formation of this world (even the foreshadowing of how climate changed messed it up).I'm just glad I got to hear about everyone for one last time--to see and feel like everything was going to work out in the end. Sad to see the series end but I loved it!!

Thoroughly enjoyed Iron Heart, Fire Light and Farewell! Queen Song & Steel Scars were interesting but not totally fascinating. World Behind was boring and slow, felt like it was there to fill space in the book not entertain.

Actual rating 2.5 stars.A bind up of novellas for the Red Queen franchise that follow secondary characters in this universe, and the final short story lets us glimpse into the further of Mare and Cal after ‘War Storm.’It pains me to say, but this was the least interesting read of the series so far. That, in addition to the publishers doubling up on releasing two short stories previously published in another bind-up. Which left two novellas that I had not read that were so steeped in politics and descriptions of the nation (and historical research) that the tone was dry and boring. I seriously had a difficult time trying to stay focused on the page.The ray of sun that broke through the clouds, was the inclusion of Mare and Cal reuniting in the last novella. Though not really explored, just a brief moment where they address feelings (not getting too deep) before the story ends.So I got a brief moment of joy in a sea of lengthy beaurocratic red tape descriptions and two already-read short stories. I kinda feel ripped off.There were moments of Victoria Aveyard’s writing that really drew me in, especially in the final novella, but the rest of the time the pacing was off and the plot so bogged down with situational recount, no compelling protagonist, for me to feel connected to the narrative, or even care where the story is going.‘Broken Throne’ is more for the die-hard enthusiast for the Red Queen series. It has snippets from other characters, description of political movements and wars, history from present day to this dystopian powered world of Reds and Silvers. A great companion for the fans; but for me, a lover of the supernatural powers and a strong tale of a protagonist overcoming the odds, much of this did not appeal.

Lorsque j’ai refermé War Storm en décembre de l’année dernière (il sort en France chez JCLattès en Novembre), j’ai eu comme un goût d’inachevé, une certaine frustration même si nous avons une fin propre.Je n’ai donc pas résisté à Broken Throne qui regroupe plusieurs nouvelles qui se passent avant, pendant et après la série. Et je ne regrette pas du tout. Grâce à ce volume, j’ai enfin eu les réponses à mes questions et une VRAIE fin, une comme je l’espérais. C’est donc avec plaisir que j’ai retrouvé Mare, Cal, Farley et Shade, et les autres. Heureuse et triste d’avoir pu connaître la mère de Cal et sa fin. Ashe et Lyrisa sont un bonus dans cette série et je les ai aimés sur le peu de pages qu’ils leur sont alloués.Que dire à part, que je suis ravie d’avoir pu lire la rencontre entre Diana et Shade, la relation fusionnelle entre Tiberias et Coriane (les parents de Cal), ainsi qu’un vrai épilogue où l’on découvre ce qu’il se déroule durant les mois qui passent après l’affrontement final. Il y a également des bonus comme une carte du monde, des entrées de documents écrits par différents personnages et commentés par Julian. Un arbre généalogique…Pour conclure, ce livre bonus est un coup de cœur. Il complète à merveille la série et je le trouve indispensable pour ceux qui veulent en savoir plus sur le monde de Red Queen. J’ai été agréablement surprise par son contenu. Bref, je vous le recommande chaleureusement.

Depois da série inteira ter sido bem decepcionante para mim, me surpreendi por ter gostado tanto desse livro! Adorei ver as informações extras, ainda que acredite que elas façam pouquíssima diferença na história. Só pelo jeito que foram dispostas, pelo personagem que as organizou e os comentários dele, já valeu! O design ficou ótimo também!Sobre os contos, eu gostei de quase todos! Adorei o da mãe do Cal bem mais do que eu esperava, foi o da Farley que finalmente me fez gostar dela e a Evangeline já tinha entrado para as minhas favoritas no último livro! Mas todo conto que teve o Cal e a Mare já não foi tão bom. É incrível como eles conseguem deixar qualquer história mais chata! Esperava que depois de tanta enrolação durante a série, eles não teriam demorado ainda mais para se entenderem! Nunca vi uma autora adiar tanto um romance tão sem sal!Recomendo o livro de contos sim, porque é o mais interessante da série inteira, mas não posso dizer que recomendo a série.

Product came in great condition. The stories were great. It was really nice to get to see a piece about the Singer Queen, and see a bit more of Evangaline. I was a bit confused with the ending of war storm, but this was a great way to wrap up the series. It allowed her to finish the quiet romance nicely.
