It works, although the needle in the compass regularly gets locked in place and it's a bear to unstick. If you are looking for a quality compass (obviously for the price it won't be solid and sturdy), you would do better looking elsewhere. However, it does function, but not terribly well. If you want a display piece that will be looked at but not really touched a lot, this is a neat little thing to have.

OK, admittedly, if I were lost in the wilderness, I wouldn't be relying on this compass and sundial for my survival. But it does work! And since I got it to go in a display of timepieces through the years, I think it's a great little addition to the display. The compass points north, and the thread gives a fairly accurate sundial reading when used according to the instructions on the back. It's a wonderful novelty to have, and could do in a pinch in a wilderness setting, but for the purpose most of us will get it, it's well worth the cost. By the way, there are many more reviews (most 5 star) of a very similar one on the "Customers Also Viewed" list under "Engraved Antique Patina Pocket Sundial Compass with Cord Gnomon," but this one is half the price.

Bought this as a gift for someone who is a sailor. He absolutely loved it. It came in a beautiful case and the price is reasonable. You can't go wrong.

I got this as a replacement gift for a different brand one that came not only with cracked glass on the compass, but also was falsely advertised. THIS ONE was not only correctly advertised, but also came with instructions. I tested it and it works great! I love that it is already patinaed, it makes it look more authentic. I didn't realize that a sundial needs to be tipped to the correct local latitude angle to read the correct hour. This one, of course, has the ability tip/tilt and has degree markings so that you can set it to the correct angle for your location.

thought this would be a cool nautical display item but one of the screw in legs came stripped.

Bought this as a gift for my son. Love the looks and feel of the sundial. Its really nice and is well made. Had an issue with the actual box it came in but the sellar was very responsive and fixed the issue. I would definitely do business with them again.

I bought this for my old man who is a time telling enthusiast, and it don't get anymore old school that a good sundial. This sundial is very solidly made and is super easy to set up it comes with a nice display box made from wood with the manufacturers crest marked onto it. The price is definitely worth it too as it doesn't break the bank also.

Worth every penny if that's what matters, excellent product can't fault it, catches the eye
