Beautiful picture
I spent a long time trying to decide between a 3LCD and a DLP projector. I settled on this projector because of good reviews, price and features. This projector is nice and bright, the picture can still be easily made out in a well lit room, but it’s obviously much more appreciated in a darkened room. 1080P sources look good and while it can support 4K input, it still only outputs in 1080P. However, the real shining point is the HDR support. With a 4K HDR source, it looks just as good as watching a 4K TV, which is very impressive given that many true 4K projectors are still well over $1,000. This alone makes the projector worth the purchase. The menus are easy to use and provide small adjustments so that you don’t have to physically move your projector if say, it’s mounted on the ceiling or what have you. Being a DLP projector, it does have a bit of fan noise, which is only really possible to hear if you don’t have any sound playing. Another con to DLP is that if you shift your eyes really quickly during certain images, you can see the color wheel artifacts on the screen. This is a minor annoyance to me, but if you think it would bother you, I would suggest going with a 3LCD model. Since I have this hooked up through a receiver, I have not tested the built in speaker nor have I tried the 3D feature in the projector, though I intend to once I can find some reliable 3D glasses that are compatible. Overall a good buy and an excellent stopgap for someone who wants 4K quality, but doesn’t want to shell out the cost for a *true* 4K projector just yet.

Bright color and much better than HD20
This projector is amazing for our small movie theater. It is mounted on the ceiling. The old mount for Optoma HD20 works for this projector, but the mount holes need new screws of M4 (only learned the specs in the specs file on the Amazon site after finishing the ceiling mount installation). But I used screws of #8 32-1 1/4 inches. Not a perfect fit but it works with some forced tightening (see the attached last two pictures). I almost returned the projector because my wall screen is 92 in (DA-LITE). The minimum screen size of this projector at my existing mounting location (11 ft away from the screen) is about 95 in. However, the digital zoom of the projector has a wide range. With -1 digital zoom, I got a perfect match of the projected image and my 92in screen. If you want to use an existing ceiling mount for this projector, make sure that your screen size can be approximately achieved with the throw ratio of 1.47-1.62 of this projector. You can also digitally shift the image horizontally and vertically, but such shifts seem to distort the image slightly. I didn't like HDR feature of this projector. I use HDMI 1 for streaming video from Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and YouTube TV. The vivid and cinema modes are my favorites. The colors are very appealing and bright. See the attached first picture. The HDMI 2.0 connection has significant better display colors than the HDMI 1.4 connection. I cannot hear the fan noise when the audio is on. But I can clearly hear the fan noise when the audio is off. The projector can be turned on automatically if it receives HDMI signal and shut down automatically after 5 min of not receiving any signal. I use smart plugs to turn on/off all audio/video devices including ambient lights. The image quality is much better than the old HD20, especially when I stream 8k videos from YouTube. Very happy with the purchase of HD28HDR and use smart life app to control all devices in my movie theater with one click inside the app.

Easily works in daylight!
Husband and I bought this to replace a similar Optoma DLP projector that we had for ~6 years. For the same price point now, this one is way brighter. We used to have to wait until dark to see anything properly on a projector, but this one is still super clear in the middle of the day (barring direct sunlight of course). That aspect alone is worth the upgrade for us, because we can get way more use out of it. The picture is very good; colors are bright and accurate. I also love the focus knob; since it's so big, it offers very fine control and it's easy to get it focused perfectly. The only cons I have are small: (1) It takes a really long time to turn on and switch inputs compared to other projectors I've had. Not a big deal, just a little annoying. (2) No dust filter! I don't know why Optoma doesn't think dust filters are necessary. Apparently they only include them in "dusty climates," whatever that means. Without one, dust will collect in the projector and make it more likely to overheat and have parts break down (that's what happened to our last one multiple times). If you are tech savvy enough, you can open the projector up every so often and vacuum the dust out to make sure the projector lasts a long time. Also just make sure you place it in a well-ventilated spot / not right up against a wall and definitely not in an enclosed space like a cubby shelf. Don't just rely on the projector telling you when it's too hot, something could be damaged or starting to melt a little before the built-in sensors go off. For future reference, if something does go wrong, don't be afraid to fix it yourself. The most common issue I've had with DLP projectors is a bad color wheel. If your colors start flashing weirdly and you hear whirring/clicking from the projector, it's probably the color wheel. You can get a new one online for <$30 and replace it yourself. Just look up a video.
