Works with cold soaking
I'm new to backpacking and didn't want to mess with a stove for my three-day, two-night Grand Canyon trip. So I cold soaked things. I made most of my own concoctions, but I did take one Mountain House Chicken Terriyaki, because I found a review saying it works well cold soaked. I tried it at home beforehand, and yes, I was fine with it (not as good as when prepared with hot water, but still very much acceptable to me). I like the flavor, the protein to fat ratio, the vegetables...really everything about it. The texture of the chicken is better than I expected for cold soaking. I ate the whole thing myself, but next time if I'm alone, I'll divide it into two meals (you can cold soak in a good ziplock or a Talenti jar). It wasn't that it was way too much food for me after a day of hiking. It's that the flavor did get a bit samey eating the whole two servings. So I'll divide it into two and supplement with something else. If you're thinking about cold soaking, try this at home first, but you just might be very happy with it. I find these meals, in general, to be rather pricey (in exchange for convenience and light-weight nutrition), but this four-pack made the price per unit more reasonable.

Flavorful
I bought these for my son’s trip to the mountains and he loved them. He had one left over that I tried and it was excellent. Easy to make, flavorful, and plenty of food. I’m sure by official regulations it’s two servings, but most likely would eat one a meal if I were using on a hike, just not quite enough for two unless you’re a light eater. We will definitely buy again.

Was surprised by the Walmart box!
Package arrived and the Mountain house meals are just what we needed. Didn't understand why they came in a Walmart box. We ordered from Amazon because they were "out of stock" at Walmart.

it's mushy fried rice - fine for camping & emergencies
Mountain House Chicken Teriyaki with Rice (pouch x 4): The new shorter wider pouch makes eating this easier. The name may be "Teriyaki" but to me it's mushy Chinese fried rice with a little bit of chicken. There are easily triple the carrots than in the Amazon page picture. And the taste of ginger is very strong. It was made palatable by adding salt & pepper. 25% less water would've probably been better too. I wouldn't choose to eat this at home. But it'll be fine for camping or emergencies.
