83 amp single 12v rail with EXCELLENT voltage regulation. Ideal for massively overclocked systems.
My system specifications are below for reference. This review is based on my first day of ownership and stability and load testing with a max of ~870w est, load on the PSU, if my opinion changes or the PSU disappoints, I will edit this post. But so far, so good. The PSU smells of fresh solder and my system is happily munching on the electricity it's being fed. This is a brand new product from Enermax in the ECO series, and as a long time Enermax fan I'm glad to be doing the first review for this new unit on Amazon on my own accord. First, let's talk about the price. I paid $109 for this unit, which is an EXCELLENT price for what you get. The product closest to it is the Rosewill Glacier 1000w at $89.99, and although they have the same 83amp rated single 12v rail, as a previous Enermax user, I trust their name more than Rosewill's. I know Rosewill has some good units, (Capstone) but I think Enermax has an excellent package here for a very middle of the road price. It was presented and packaged well, comes with a nice velvety bag to store the additional modular cables, and the 24-pin and CPU cables are rated @ 600v and feel very capable of handling the current. The PSU also has some heft to it which always indicates quality components when it comes to PSU's. My biggest disappointment with this power supply is that I wish the cables for the GPU's were just slightly longer, or as long as the CPU power cable, which is super long! Of course I usually always complain about PSU cables being slightly too short, because I'm obsessive about wire management and cleanliness, but I think those with full size towers like myself would agree they're a teency bit too short. Running 2 power virus programs which pull the most current and heat from my system, OCCT GPU and Linpack. This resulted in the GPU hitting 64c and the CPU hitting 83c. Software reading of 12v during the test read a drop from 11.843v to 11.688v under load, but you cannot trust software, as a proper DIMM registered 11.998v at idle and 11.979v load. This is a mind blowing 0.1% drop. EXCELLENT!!!! Of course my system isn't pulling anywhere near 1000w, but this is still VERY good regulation and I feel much more confident about adding an additional R9 290 or R9 390 to run crossfire without worries than I did with my previous eVGA NEX750w Supernova B1 unit which was shutting off randomly during intensive and high FPS scenes. The PSU fan is not silent, I would equate it to a medium speed 120mm fan or a 7,200rpm HD. It doesn't make an unpleasant noise, just a light whir and a bit of air movement. There is an air gap between the fan and shroud that could be eliminated, and if Enermax switched to blades that run closer to the shroud they could likely reduce the RPM and noise but retain cooling capacity. However, I have zero complaints about the sound of this PSU, it's has quite a pleasing whisper of air and I have yet to hear the fan ramp up to higher RPMs under load. Randomly aiming an infrared temperature probe at the innards of the PSU under load, the highest temperature I found inside was 54c with the rest of the components registering 35c-45c. The fan on this unit seems to work excellently at cooling the PSU. Intake air is 22c, exhaust is 29c. Again, even though I'm not stressing this PSU near it's max, the temps are still excellent and it's not pumping a ton of heat into the room like my eVGA NEX750 did. Here is the system this power supply is running: XClio A380 Twin Engine case Asus Rampage II Extreme @ 200 QPI Intel Xeon X5650 Hexa @ 4.6GHz 1.54v Turbo 24GB G.Skill DDR3 Triple Channel @ 1,600MHz AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB @ 1,240MHz/1,600MHz Team 120GB SSD OS + Adata 64GB SSD Scratch 2xSeagate 1TB 7,200RPM Storage Creative X-Fi Platinum + front bay Peripherals: Logitech G15 Rev. Wow, what a great little power supply
I just "downgraded" my case from a full tower to a desktop style case. The max length of psu to barely fit my graphics card would need to be 5.5 inches in length, this one fits the bill and then some. Perfectly modular, silent, fan doesn't spin till 30+ percent load on it. So in other word ....AWESOME!! I have a rx 580 overclocked, and it holds up just fine, and my FPS increased as well since this is such a well made power supply, and this coming from a "750" watt cheapo power supply. Also the cables are vary well made and route vary easily in the case, and the included atx bracket is awesome as well. On top of all that they give you a bluetooth keychain speaker, not amazing or anyting, but for free, definitely not complaining. Now to see how long it last, but so far so good. Will update if anything else, was worried since I never heard of this brand, but that doesn't seem to matter, read all the reviews of other name brand sfx power supplies and they were completely horrible or loud.

A good SFX Power Supply RUINED by a Terrible Semi-Fanless Mode
Everything else about this Power Supply is good except for one major thing. Enermax's implementation of the semi-fanless mode is absolutely terrible. After putting a load on my system, enough to cause the fan to spin up, and then going back to idle the fan constantly turns on and off generating an extremely irritating noise. The fan does this constantly until I shutdown my computer and let the power supply cool off. Then the fan will go back to semi-fanless mode until the temperature gets too high and starts this vicious cycle all over again. I've attached a video of this occuring (you may need to turn up the volume). I don't think there is anything else wrong with this power supply, so if you can put up with the noise or if you have some airflow that is going directly into the power supply then I can recommend this. If not, well Enermax needs to find a better way to implement the Semi-Fanless mode or just remove it all together on what would otherwise be a good power supply. Otherwise this is a good little SFX power supply. The fan itself isn't terribly loud when operating correctly and in a system with a 3 fan GPU cooler the noise it generates basically just blended in with the rest of the fans in my system.

Runs. SATA cables could be more user friendly
Runs for me. This is a fairly high priced unit, so I would expect such. Partially modular, meaning there's 2 CPU, 2 PCIe and the ATX power connector non-optional. The rest connect via the somewhat confusing and difficult to insert headers underneath them... the arrow on the (1 wide, 6 tall stack of atx plugs) connector goes on the bottom?? huh? Connect something wrong, or backwards, and the PSU will kill it's power before POST and your system will brick until you fix it. So, good safety feature? Overall, supports as many SATA power plugs as you'd reasonably need in a mid/full tower.

No noise. Currently powering an 1800x and an RX 480 in a mini-itx form factor and it's in its 4 months of use (obviously not running straight), yet under heavy workloads and gaming, and no problems to report. I haven't had the chance to work with the Silverstone and Corsair counterparts, so I can't say which one is the best. I guess the cheapest is the best cause.......i'm cheap. the end
