Amazing show, great look and sound...but some season 5 disc drawbacks
I loved Gotham from the moment I saw it. I loved the whole look and feel, the backstory of the DCU characters, etc. I watched through Season 4 before I became a cord-cutter, so I watched Season 5 for the first time via these discs.I love the dark, gritty feel. The pervasive sense of gloom and decay lends itself to the idea of a city in trouble. Everyone's apartments are dark and crumbling(except for Lee Thompkins- maybe there is something in that...). The sky is almost always overcast or raining. The clothes are often very retro and all the cars definitely are. They have flip-phones but not smartphones so the designers have chosen to given an ambiguous timeframe. The performances are all great, but I have to give a special nod to Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin. He is particularly awesome in his role. The sound on the discs is fantastic, in DTS Master HD. The dialog is crisp and clear through the center speaker of 5.1 system. And you can hear how much care goes into the sound effects, particularly through the rear speakers. Two people are in some building somewhere, and in the rear speakers you hear noises outside, like trucks going by, dogs barking, etc.I have one negative comment though, for which I'd knock off half a star if I could. All the discs for the first four seasons:- have a display showing the episode number when you pause. Very handy when binging through multiple episodes.- have a resume function that will pick up where you left off if you leave mid-episode and come back the next day- are indexed such that when an episode starts with a "Last time on Gotham..." recap, you could hit the Next Chapter button on your DVD remote and go right to the beginning of the episode. That recap is redundant when binging on discs. These three features are *all* missing on the Season 5 discs. Maybe since season 5 ended in April and the disc set was released in August, the mastering on the last seasons discs was rushed. A bit of a bummer after having had those features through four seasons.

A Great Series to Add to Your Collection
In these days of streaming services, not as many people still purchase DVDs. But what do you do when the series you really want to watch is no longer streaming? Netflix had Gotham for a while, but then removed it from its listings, which is why I ordered the DVD set. And I'm so glad I did. Gotham is one of those rare series with really colorful characters, all involved in multifaceted plot lines, making it the kind of show you can watch over and over and still see something new each time. And the show did a great job of explaining how many of Batman's friends and foes came to be, including the Riddler, Catwoman, and the Penguin (who was brilliantly portrayed by Robin Lord Taylor). Gotham is a GREAT series, and well-worth adding to your collection.
