Grip Feel, Balance and Blade my new carry folder.
I have long been a fan of S.A.K. however, I have XXL hands so normally carry a fixed blade too when out in the woods. Will probably continue this practice anyway, however, the SwissChamp I normally carry will be replaced with this one. The Champ will still ride in my vehicle, but not my backpack. I don't have to worry about slipping and slicing my finger with this RangerGrip! It's big enough, contoured just right and I like the way they put some ridging on the back of the "one handed opening" piece on the blade. This is really noticeable when wearing gloves. More control. This knife has a bigger blade, and a really useful shape that locks in place - something I appreciate a lot. Furthermore, this is a saw that is still the legendary Swiss Army Knife Saw yet it is appreciably longer than the one on regular sized S.A.K. knives. This translates to larger pieces that one can effectively cut with it. The wife is laughing at me sawing away at bushes and small tree limbs in the back yard that I would normally get the saws-all out to handle. It's slower, true, but cutting through them so effectively with this knife is just a lot of fun. S.A.K. still has the best can opener going, and I still use one in the kitchen, I am nearly as fast as the electric one she insisted on buying. Am still waiting to discover a non-twist off bottle cap in the US, but it is a good screwdriver. The awl/punch is useful for tons of things bushcrafting. I selected the straight blade because I am not a fan of serrated unless I am on a sailboat where I may have to cut large cordage. When sailing I carry my Victorinox 53664 Helmsman that is also available on Amazon. This leads me to my last important point - the corkscrew model instead of the Phillips Head model. I have never, in over 50 years of camping, needed a Phillips Head in the woods. The corkscrew not only opens wine bottles - it works as a GREAT marlinspike for small to say, 3/8" rope to get pesky, tight knots loosened up. There are probably other uses for it besides wine, but that is what I have needed it for plenty of times. One's camping companions are not always good with tying knots, and you generally don't discover this until time to break camp. Better to show them how to get that horrible knot loose than cut the cord and have to jury rig something at the next campsite. I don't understand the recent release of the US Army model, which is essentially a RangerGrip without the tweezers and toothpick. Gads! I seldom get splinters since I decided to wear good gloves, but trail mix and other things get between my teeth constantly. How does one handle this without a toothpick? I did add one thing. Those nifty little eyeglass screwdrivers that slot in to the corkscrew sell in three packs for nearly nothing, weigh nothing, and if you have one on the trail when someone is losing their screw on the glasses they depend on, you are the hero. Even if they are your own glasses. I have them on all the S.A.K. with corkscrew that I own, and they have come in handy in urban and rural settings with about equal frequency. I did order the cloth sheath for this knife. It is a tad large for my already crowded pocket. If you are more disciplined than I on what you put in your pocket this will likely work just fine.

A really useful saw and knife combo.
This knife surprised me. I had not bought a Swiss Army knife as I preferred multi tools. The RANGER on the other hand has a 4 inch long saw for the woods when camping and a sharp 3.9 inch blade for general chores. The other tools are useful except for the Swiss required corkscrew!! The grip has panels that give a sturdy grip. It is well worth the money. I now carry it as part of my EDC kit. One thing, this is a big knife and you will need to get a sheath for it. Not too heavy.

Very satisfied
This is my first and hopefully only SAK (because I hope it never has issues and it became a treasured item very quickly). I was skeptical but I this is by far my favorite tool I've ever owned. I love the size of the blade and that it locks and the size and robustness of the saw. I'm pretty sure I pushed the intended limit of the saw by changing my angle in cutting down a massive actual tree limb... I made a big wooden maul and several toggles already. Compared to what I've been using...it just feels good to work with this quality tool. Blades are sharp and I've already done a wide variety of tasks in a short period of time. Things just seem to go faster and I find myself looking for excuses to pick this thing up and use it... the versatility and functionality are perfect...

This unit is a bit bigger that a watch pocket pocketknife. Substantial with a very useful blade and saw. Wonderful solid quality, Feels good to have in a pocket.

Love this knife! Great value, just the right size for my hands, easy to grip and the quality easy one hand opening and primary blade lock is great with that push button release in the handle being so handy!

Victorinox quality is top notch.
I collect ALOT of pocket knives. The higher ends would be case and american made schrade knives so this would be the upper end of what I spend. On the lower end, I like Marble's and rough ryder and the taylor brand knives. so knowing my taste bud range I can say I was super impressed with the ranger grip for the 59 dollar sale price that I have not seen again at that price. the blade was extremely sharp, all the blades/tools were highly polished, and the overall fit and finish were excellent. The Rangergrip is a large knife, which I wanted and I was very pleased with the size and how it felt in the hand. I saw a few complaints from people that had no idea to release the liner lock on the blade you need to push in on the swiss cross logo. Not insults to them, they just didn't know. Every tool that needed to be sharp (blade/saw/can opener) was sharp and beautifully polished. I could not decide between the model with the pliers and the model with the saw. Since I ultimately wanted both features I purchased both. This review is for the model 79. I really really like it and for the sale price of 59 I feel like I got a great deal and find the knife to be of high quality.

Excellent tool well worth buying!
I really enjoy using this knife. Out of the box it was shaving sharp & the flat grind makes slicing easy. All the tools open & close smoothly. In particular I like having the one handed opening but the side switch does take a little getting used to. Lockup on the blade is superb with zero play in either direction. During hard use while cutting I found the back ridge on the screwdriver dug into my finger a bit. Generally it’s not noticeable under light to medium cutting tasks. It’s large size make it something of a brick in the pocket being my only real gripe. I wish it came with a belt sheath but even without it, I think the RG ‘79 is well worth the price.

Must have SAK
Why did you pick this product vs others?: This thing is bomb proof. I love a SAK, but this one is a beast. Added a fire starter to the cork screw, which is why I ordered this one and not the version with the screwdriver. Perfect locking mechanism.
