Used by a motorcyclist instead of chaps or thermals
BLUF: They are warm as heck. Order a size or two up on the waist. Try them on at a store if you can. Iâve just gotten back to riding my motorcycle again year-round again. Iâve been adding layers and clothing along the way to ensure that I can ride throughout the winter, and this past week the temps and wind chill took the âfeels-likeâ temperature down to 20 degrees. I really hate wearing thermals, so I decided to try coveralls at a friendâs urging. After having spent a morning looking over different styles on the internet, I determined that a quilt-lined pair of overalls is what I wanted to go with. I took a trip over to my local Tractor Supply Company who had this same brand priced at exactly $20 more. I would have bought a pair then, but they didnât have the size that I wanted. They also didnât have my size in their store-brand either. I assume that had something to do with going after the first major cold/freezing spell. So, the biggest benefit was actually trying them on. In reality I wear a 32â waist. When I tried on a 34â waist in the store, I thought it was a bit tight. I ended up ordering a 36â waist from Amazon, and so far, they are perfect. I donât feel like itâs snug. I ordered roughly two sizes up and have been very happy with the result. The length is 30â, just like every other pair of pants I own. Notes on fit: -I wear them with a pair of combat boots. Itâs easier getting them on than getting them off. -The zipper on the pant legs works fine. The buttons are a pain in the rear, but that might be because they are new -and very stiff. -There are so many pockets. Great for using them for their intended purpose â overkill for riding -I donât like the fasteners for the overall straps. They work fine, but buttons would have been easier here. This is more like a hook and loop style. -I had to take off the overalls to adjust the straps. I ordered my normal ant inseam, but had to tighten the straps quite a bit. Still would not have changed that decision. When the temps are well below 40, and half that with the wind chill, these work amazingly well. My mid-section and upper legs are toasty warm all the way down to 20 degrees real-feel, and going 60 mph. The only drawback that I found when using them for this purpose, it gets cold from about my shins down when the cold air gets up under the pant legs. This is due to them being loose at the bottom of the legs. Again â I am not necessarily using them for their intended application, so itâs not surprising that they are loose and allow air to flow, but thatâs the only drawback. Otherwise, these fit great and they keep me warm. If I only had a pair of gloves this warm.

Do Your Homework
First of all, I bought this on Amazon simply the because the price was much lower than buying at the large outfitter store near me. Because that store is so close, I was able to try these on to make sure I got the correct size. Which brings me to the size. Decide how you're going to use these. Most Carhartt outer wear is larger than most of us are used to because it's designed as OUTER wear. In other words, if you normally wear an XL, the XL in these bibs will be big enough that you can probably wear long johns AND a pair of pants underneath. If you're going to be working in them, you can probably go a size smaller; you'll still have room for long john's. NOTE that this does not necessarily apply to length. I got the same length as I wear in jeans and they fit perfectly. As for warmth. I wore these while clearing my driveway earlier this winter. It was pretty cold out, single digit or low teens, and I was using a snow blower (no more shoveling for me, thank you very much!). I wore these with thermal britches and NEVER felt the cold. If I'd been exerting myself I'd have gone with regular scivvie britches. My main reason for buying these is protection, as in, from thorns. My hunting buddies always swear they are giving me the "easy" route, but I still end up going through briers that even Bre'r Rabbit would avoid. I normally come out bloody from waist to shin (good boots and a Carhartt Jacket take care of the rest). Not so with these overalls. The duck material is extremely protective, and I suffered nary a scratch. These Carhartt products are quite water resistant but not completely waterproof. They will keep you dry for quite a while even when it's raining, but eventually water will get through. It just takes a while. However, I have never had snow melt through, and to be honest, I don't care to stand out in the rain all that long regardless what I'm wearing! One last word on warmth. I wear my jacket even when it's only cool out (50s-60s). I leave it unzipped and I don't get too warm. I know some people do; it just isn't too much for me. These overalls, on the other hand, would definitely be too much if it's not necessary to wear them. Like most Carhartt duck outer ware, they are fairly stiff and bulky, so they are great for working, not so much as casual wear. I have no hesitation recommending these, and when (if!) it becomes necessary to replace them I will certainly get another pair. EDIT: It's now 6 years later, and these overalls are still going strong. Absolutely a quality product!

Please read in sizing- my brother loves them
I had ordered the Carhartt Men's Quilt Lined Duck Zip-To-Thigh Bib Overall, and ordered the Jacket, please read review I wrote about the Jacket as well to help with your purchase. I had ordered these bibs in the brown color, I had read many reviews stating to order a size bigger, my brother wears a 34-35X32 in jeans so I placed a order size 36X32 and they fit perfect as I did re-order the Jacket as ordering don't size up, With the bibs you need to order a size up in waist as a 34 needs a size 36, they fit him perfect. Normal size in Jeans right at 34X32 if wearing the bibs size up or jeans underneath as he has plenty of room to move and not big or bulky, if you order your normal size they will be to snug. I hope both of my reviews helps and prevent returning. The bibs are true to color in the brown tone, very quilted, warm, great product as if you went to your local Carhartt store. Bibs show in pictures a slight brighter color they do match. As stated in my review about the matching Jacket, order the Jacket in your normal size, worked out great as my husband stands 6'3 weighs 252 lbs and the XL Jacket fit him perfect he liked it so well I just re-ordered the Jacket in a L as my brother normally wears a L and the XL (Jacket) swallowed him, my husband don't have the bibs but he loved the quality of the Jacket. Very well packed and ordered on 11/1 and arrived at my door on 11/4, you can't go wrong, a wonderful warm Christmas gift. Nothing I can say bad about the 3 orders I placed as it all worked out great! Please read about the matching Jacket review. "Update" Review after opening for Christmas, everything stated is true however I did have to return the M bibs size 36X32 for a bigger size for a L in size 38X32 as this person wears a size 34X32 in jeans, it states to order two sizes bigger which I did they fit perfect all but the top snap on the hip waist area he couldn't snap, I will reorder once the bibs are received in the warehouse.

When did we decide that the overall clasp from 100 years ago needed an upgrade?
First off, the bibs were nice, fit as they should, and really warm (I almost broke a sweat just trying them on). I was able to return them without any problems. My issue was with the clasp. I have worn overalls and bibs for years and they all have had the same button and buckle loop clasp for the shoulder straps since forever ago. However, these did not. These had a small square metal plate attached to the chest and then the shoulder straps had another plate with a slit in the middle. The plate attached to the chest slipped through the plate on the straps and they interlocked. While they appeared to be well constructed I couldn't imagine them lasting as long as some of the other overalls and bibs I've had over the years. Now maybe they would but I wasn't ready to take the chance on a $100 pair of insulated bibs. I mean I've got a pair of Pointer Brand overalls that I dug out of my grandfather's closet after he passed away 15 years ago, and there's no telling how long he had them before then, and I'm still wearing them. Point is, IMHO if it ain't broke don't fix it. Berne had a pair, same style, color, price, everything but without the "upgraded" clasp.

Great bibs! Snowy weather work, approved!
Purchased these for my husband who is a field maintenance tech. He's often outside in any and all weather conditions. I wanted him to have something warm while working in cold and snowy conditions. These deliver!! He loves them! He's been so warm while working outside in the cold, wind and snow and even some rain and sleet. I purchased a larger size at first based on measuring chart and other reviews. However around his waist was too wide. I also ordered too long by accident. So I did an exchange for a smaller and shorter size. I'd suggest not ordering the same length that you order in jeans. These are still long and if they do end up being a little on the short side, the straps are adjustable! Which my husband liked bc he didn't like them being tight and well in his words "all up in my nuts" đđ so loosening the straps were a must for him. He is 6' about 210 and I got him the 40 waist (to allow for his carhartt hoodies to fit under) and a 30 length. They fit comfortably without dragging the ground and getting in the way. These were a great buy! Hope they last him for several years to come.

Sizing is very innacurate. Nice bibs
I am roughly a 38-40 waist by 32 long. No gut. In the end after trying 5 different sizes in this style of bibs i had to buy a 48 x 32. I started with a different style of bib that was too warm. This style fit the bill but the sizing is all over the place. Some 30 lengths were super long, another 30 length was short. Quality control issue?? Regardless I found a pair that fits. I hate the clips on the chest that hold the straps. Poor design. Dickies jean coveralls have a better design. Why regress? Anyway a great pair of bibs for the the short cold weather we have here and great for camping. A must have. Decent price.

If wearing over reg clothes your pant size is at least two sizes bigger around the waste.
Product is amazing. I bought these for a coastal fishing trip right before the Texas winter storms changed my plans. And let me tell you these dudes are amazing. I was out in below zero temps with these dudes on, as well as my carhart coat, and I was so warm and comfortable I couldnât believe it. Amazing product very durable, water resistant, and I canât stress enough WARM!! I will for sure buy a pair just to have as a âgoing to townâ pair, when these get worn and dirty, as well as a pair that is not insulated for the warmer seasons.
