GREAT rolling backpack!
I bought this for airplane carry on bag and it's GREAT! VERY large interior and many functional compartments, pockets, and slots to keep organized while traveling. LOVE the light navy blue color, it's pretty! it rolls nicely and seems sturdy. AND my fat Hydroflask water bottle easily fits in the the outside mesh pocket!

This bag pwns.
Awesome travel bag. It's not super huge so you can keep in the overhead but has enough room for short trips. I dragged it around Seattle for a convention, in and out of the rain. Took it on the ferry and had it with me most of the time and it held up well. I never strapped it to my back, rather kept it rolling around and even when I was running away from homeless attackers, it held up quite well and rolled smooth and has shown pretty much no signs of breaking down. Very happy with the purchase, probably more than most of the garbage I end up with these days.

Works really great
Update on this three years after original purchase: This is, without a doubt, the best purchase I ever made. Literally every time I use this, I think to myself, "I LOVE this backpack!" For three years I have dragged this around with me all over New York city, up and down subway stairs, over-packed with gig items (including a small speaker), with clothes and makeup for auditions; props and costumes for shows, books, binders, etc. There's even a nice outside pocket for an umbrella, water bottle or travel mug. I've taken it on air trips and it holds my laptop and a bunch of gear and fits neatly down the narrow aisles of every plane I've ridden. Incredibly light, no wear on zippers or on the telescoping handle. Now I've moved to Atlanta and I use it for quick trip grocery shopping (I walk) and it holds at least two (or 3) bags of groceries. The wheels are incredibly sturdy, the bag still looks like new. I've uploaded pictures so you can see how good this still looks and, believe me, i have not coddled this bag. There's a bit of wear on the wheels but it still works smoothly. This is an AWESOME product! THANK YOU HIGH SIERRA! Original review: I did a lot of comparing before purchasing this rolling backpack. I needed something that could withstand the streets of New York, be light weight enough to carry up subway stairs and also fit down the aisle of a plane. This bag is perfect. The wheels are wide and seem to be super durable. it is light, yet protects my laptop very well. There are multiple pockets which let me carry everything from office supplies to groceries to makeup (I'm an actor, hence the running around Manhattan). The handle is strong, and when it goes down it immediately locks to carry the bag down steps. It goes through the turnstile at the subway. It turns and moves freely. I'm very happy with this.

Watch product video, no internal strap
I really like this bag because it has a sturdy handle, sturdy wheels and is spacious to fit my work laptop, notebook, over the head headphones, snack box, and water bottle among other things. I commute to work via subway and then walk a couple blocks. However, the zippers on the main compartment go all the way down and there is no strap so the contents can spill out if you open it too far. This is why I’m returning it. I should’ve watched the product video instead of just looking at the pictures!

Great bags at a more than reasonable price- I'd buy again.
Update 2 June 10, 2016: The handle came yesterday and it turned out to be a little harder to replace than I was hoping for. The assembly was riveted in which is easy to remove (drill it out), but difficult to replicate. I went, instead for 2 bolts and nylon locking nuts. It works and I'm VERY HAPPY! Update, June 6, 2016: I just got off the phone with High Sierra's customer service and had a GREAT experience. I chose not to email them because I like talking with people in these instances and I was able to give him the information right then and there (and another reviewer had problems doing it via email). Anyway, apparently my son leaves the telescoping handle up as school, something heavy fell on the bag and the handle bent (would have been no problem if he'd collapsed the handle like he was supposed to). I didn't think the handle looked replaceable, but upon further inspection, it did. So I called the warranty and repair dept (1-888-368-1304) hoping to BUY a new handle since this was my kid's fault, not a warranty issue. After verifying the model and if a handle is available, they're sending one out, no charge!!! Hopefully it's only one screw holding the handle in as it looks. All this took a grand total of 10 minutes. I'll update as soon as the handle comes in in 3-5 business days :) Oh, and my 2 10-year olds have used these bags for 2 school years and the bags are almost in perfect condition and hold A LOT. This was the first review, from May 2015. One school year in and this bag still looks close to new. Everything still works well. I bought two of them for my 3rd grade twins and have NOT let them roll them through the sand or grass- only over pavement (to protect the wheels). I also told them how to treat the handle by not spinning it around to face another direction- they need to walk it around carefully. One child had to be told a few times not to try and ride the handle like a horse .... I did all of this warning because I pick them up every day and see the abuse kids put on these roll-arounds. Then I hear the parents talk about how one brand or another doesn't last. I figured that these looked tough and I like the reviews so I tried them out- but I instilled those rules because I want these to last for 3-4 years. I'd buy them again, but I hope I won't have to for a while :)

Amazing - compact and smooth!
Right off the bat, I want to express my admiration for how this thing was advertised as "smooth ride". I didn't buy it for that specifically but I was astonished at how that's definitely true. I wheel this thing around with me every single day -- it makes a two-mile roundtrip through a city whose sidewalks haven't seen better days since the 60s when they were probably first paved, and it's been an absolute trooper. I have a laptop in there (all the accessories I need for the laptop such as the charger, mouse, etc.), a lunch box, two sweatshirts, a sketchbook, and a drawing tablet. It's a tight fit, but nothing is getting damaged or bent. The handle is very long so it's very comfortable to roll without feeling like I have to slightly drop my shoulder to accomodate, which has relieved a lot of the back pain I've had from using a regular luggage bag. It's got a plastic underside which takes away the anxiety of coming to sudden stops on concrete and fearing that you may have torn the underside of the bag. I will say, I haven't used it as a backpack much because it's not particularly comfortable long-term. Because of the compartment where the handle is stored, the back is rigid flat and doesn't have any ergonomic give -- it feels exactly how you would imagine attaching backpack to a luggage bag would be. I'm not taking off any stars for this though, because I still greatly appreciate the option when I need to get somewhere at a brisk jog, or I don't want to hurt my shoulders/arms from carrying it with one hand up several flights of stairs.

Full featured
This backpack has an appearance that more closely resembles a good quality traditional backpack rather than a roller back pack. The handle hides away when not in use, and extends easily with the touch of a button. The sturdy aluminum handle and high quality wheels make it easy to maneuver this steady backpack. There are plenty of pockets, including an inner padded sleeve for a laptop computer. I tried it with a sixteen inch computer with an extended battery pack, and it wouldn't fit. Most typical laptops shouldn't be a problem, though. There's an ample sized middle pocket in addition to the ones pictured, and a side pocket that could accommodate a large water bottle. Less obvious is the pouch on the back that lets you tuck the straps into it, so they don't drag on the floor. It keeps the elegant appearance when the wheels are in use. Overall, it does everything I need. If you have a larger laptop, it's more likely to fit if its outside isn't too much larger than the screen dimensions. The tag on the bag lists a limited lifetime warranty with a footnote that it's good for only five years for roller packs, so read it carefully. UPDATE: After 15 months, the handle and arm came off during normal use. The company changed its warranty procedure. Instead of sending the product to them, I had to reply to an email by attaching a photo of the damage and of the UPC tag, and answering one simple question: what happened? The rep said all I needed to say was that "it just came off." They wanted a copy of the receipt, which is easy to get from Amazon's purchase history. And they wanted to know my address. I can't see how it would be possible to process a warranty claim with any less information, so I'd say the experience was "as easy as possible." I will update this review again only if I don't get the replacement promptly without any hassle. I still consider it worthy of four stars, given that I'll get at least five years out of it, and my son will be off to college by the time the warranty ends. I probably replaced backpacks in the past every 15 months or so due to normal wear and tear, so this is still a bargain. UPDATE 2: After filling out the request, I got a reply nine days later. They asked me to let them know my top four choices for replacement, and now they want even more photos of tags, as well as a photo of the bag with a 3" x 5" hole cut in it. Perhaps they don't get the concept, but if they show me four replacements and let me pick one, then I'm making a choice. If they get to pick one for me, that means it's not my choice. Considering they only make one model of roller backpack, are they telling me that they have the right to send something completely different? That's not what the warranty says. It says they will repair or replace it. I'm not about to destroy a backpack until they assure me that they will honor the warranty, so I wrote back to them. I got a canned response saying it will take up to 12 days to get back to me. Even if they sent out a replacement immediately, it would still be a poor way to honor the warranty given the amount of time it takes. But what do they expect my son to carry his books in in the interim until the replacement arrives? They already have a photo showing the handle broken off and know it's destroyed. Update 3: I'm lowering my rating to two stars. I got a response five days later saying I would hear back within a few business days. So far I haven't heard back. It's been 19 days from the last update, meaning 24 days since my email to them, and 36 days since my original contact. I'm not saying that's how long the process took. I'm saying that's how long the process has taken up to the time of this update and I'm still waiting to hear back. Update 4: It's been a while since I last updated this, so I don't remember exact time frames, but I did eventually get a free replacement that has worked fine ever since, and held up well. At this point, I'd give the backpack itself at least four stars, but the service much less. They did come through and I think that anybody who needs a replacement will get one, but it was more of a hassle than it should have been.
