Easy to use, works great, and a great value for a small business
What a great investment this little device was for our business. We use this on-hold player with our 3Com NBX phone system. It plays the messages off of a Flash drive of your choosing. It comes included with a flash drive pre-loaded with licensed on-hold music, FREE. You could pull it right out of the box, plug it in, turn it on, and leave it at that. If you want to put your own on-hold music or messages, you just load an empty flash drive with MP3's and it plays them in rotation. The included software, MessageStudio, hasn't been updated in years, but it gets the job done with ease and works fine on Windows 7. With a decent microphone plugged into the computer, it allows you to record your own messages. You basically create a list of the files you want (music, voice recordings), put them in order, and the software creates a single MP3 for you to load onto a Flash drive. If you're struggling for words, it even has a feature which helps you write scripts to use. I cannot emphasize how easy everything is to do. We do Christmas music for the holidays and announcements about when we're going to be closed, etc. It can be done on the fly. We keep a standard Flash drive for regular music and one with Christmas music and you can swap them any time you want and it'll play them in rotation. With a microphone, a computer, and about an hour of time, you could have this thing configured to sound as good as any professionally done on-hold system. Our biggest problem is that no one wants to be the voice on the announcements! It's well-built and solid and leaves little to be desired. It fit nicely in our rack next to our phone system. It came with European, UK, and US plug adapters, a software CD, and both 3.5mm stereo and RCA style cables.

Proceed with caution before loading your favorite Mp3's to the USB drive
Easy setup and installation. The great thing about this unit is you can mount it to a wall next to your phone system. For installations that don't have a flat tabletop surface to set it on, the OHP 8000 comes with mounting hardware for drywall and wood. This unit comes pre-loaded with a small variety of royalty-free music. The royalty-free designation is important here. While you can technically load any Mp3 files you want onto the USB flash drive, be aware that you might be violating copyright laws. There are companies who call around to different businesses with the sole purpose of checking for licensed "on-hold" music. If they discover that you do not have the proper permission/license to broadcast the songs playing on your hold system, you can be fined. Royalty-free music is available for purchase all over the Internet and if you're not happy with the songs that come with this unit, I suggest looking into purchasing some alternatives. I ended up listening to various parts of each Mp3 file that came with this unit and decided to remove a few of them before installation. Some of the music is good and serves its purpose as hold music, but there were a few files that weren't all that great to listen to. Given that most people are only on hold an average of 30-60 seconds in small business settings, choose the files you like the best and remove anything you don't like. The files on the USB drive will run in a continuous loop.

Excellent product
This machine is solidly built and bigger than it seems in the pictures. The case is aluminum with thick plastic caps on the ends. The controls are nice, smooth turning and the internal speaker sounds good. I use it for hold music for a small office. It sounds great. The included memory key has a wide variety of non-offensive, professional-sounding music including smooth jazz, rock, country, and classical-sounding pieces. None of it will make your clients complain, "What was that weird music?" The voice-overs ("Thank you for holding, we'll be right with you" etc.) are pleasant and I actually like listening to our hold music when I call the office to check in. The machine puts out a signal through a male RCA jack. I wish rather than the foreign power adaptors that they included an RCA to mono (headphone) adaptor. I had to run to RadioShack to get this part ($3) but once I got it everything worked fine. The machine has the potential to run on 8 ohms or some other number. I played with both- the 8 ohm sounded better and neither setting fried the system. In summary, I think they did a really nice job with this device including quality construction designed to last, and providing hours of music and voice-overs that I am proud to offer to our clients. Since starting the machine, it's never failed, despite multiple power outages (I have it on a surge-protected battery backup), and clients seem happier when I pick up the phone after they've been put on hold.

Instant fix for a seriously annoying problem
Our old ON HOLD device was just 8 minutes and we had to supply the music. It's amazing how difficult it is finding suitable royalty free music. This device is shy on instructions, but I don't care because it's just fine right out of the box. The stock music seems just fine, especially considering that it's a nice variety. I especially like that it rotates between male & female recordings. Cons: I wish I didn't have to listen to the music on the box. It's marginally useful for setup, but the staff would let me know if it stops working. Now I'm forced to have elevator music in my computer room - which interferes with necessary communications if on a long support call in an already loud environment. If I turn it off, it kills the output to our phone system.

As you claim that it will start right up after a power failure, it has each and every time. Given that these units run 24/7 365 days a year, each one has held up very well. I started using the CD Player units back in 2007 and always keep a 2nd unit on hand as redundancy. Great

record your message on a USB stick, plug the OHP 8000 into your phone system, stick in the USB and you're done. Well work the money

We purchased these for our 13 stores. They easily connected to our BCM50 phone system. Using the included software we created a generic sound file to play while on hold interspersed with a "Thank you for calling Company X" message every few seconds. A very cost effective way to avoid dead air while customers are on hold.
