Camera Pencil Sharpener, Black (SC12)

This sharpener looks and works fantastic if you follow the simple steps. It has a very good blade and stable mechanism, although how durable it is remains to be seen. It sharpens as good or better and is more ingenious than a very dependable Dahle sharpener that I have used. It is much better than 3 X-ACTO vacuum mount manual sharpeners I have went through. Just follow these steps for an amazing pencil point - okay, well 5 steps for a pencil sharpener does seem overly complicated but in reality it really isn't for this cool sharpener :) 1. Pull the upper "lens assembly" out away from the "camera body" until it locks into its furthest position by a metal guide stop plate. 2. Push the "shutter button" in as this will allow 3 rubber pads to draw out within the open upper "lens" assembly to insert a pencil through the lens opening into the cutting blade area. 3. Release the shutter button as the rubber pads will grasp the pencil. 4. While securing the camera body with one hand begin turning the rear crank clockwise with the other hand as this will release the metal locking plate and allow the gripped pencil to retract back toward the sharpening blade as you sharpen. You will not need to hold the pencil at all during the sharpening process. 5. When the crank freely spins without resistance push the shutter button to remove the pencil that has been sharpened to an unbelievably perfect point! The lower "lens" is a compartment tray that catches the shavings, there is also a knob at the center of the rear crank that allows you to adjust the sharpness of the pencil point. I would recommend this sharpener primarily because it works so well, although I will say that while the construction is very clever and looks fine that overall this sharpener does not appear to be very robust if handled roughly.

This pencil sharpener Kikkerland Camera Pencil Sharpener, Black (SC12) is not only cute and perfect for camera lovers like myself, but it is also very functional. Don't listen to the previous reviews that were complaining about how hard it was to use this sharpener, I understood how to use it and was sharpening pencils in a matter of minutes!! There are handy instructions on the back of the box that are very helpful, but otherwise you should understand how to use the sharpener anyways. I love that you can adjust the sharpness of the pencil and that there is also a grip that holds the pencil in place when you sharpen it. I also love that it is not your regular blade sharpener and that there is a handy tray to hold the pencil shavings. This is a cute and functional sharpener that is perfect for any desk!! The cute retro camera shape is amazing and I cannot wait to bring it to my dorm room and have it double as a decoration and office supply!! The price of this item also cannot be beat, because I know there are other sharpeners that are more costly, and it's cheaper than an electric pencil sharpener.

If you are seriously reading reviews on pencil sharpeners, then I'm going to go ahead and guess you really care about your pencil sharpener investment. If so, put this one in your cart. It's just fun. Performance wise, I have no complaints. It sharpens pencils literally in about 5 seconds with a manual crank. Point sharpness is adjustable. Even cheap colored pencils are easy to sharpen. It's tricky for a 5 year-old to master (you have to hold down with one hand while you turn the crank), but not impossible. However, I wouldn't recommend this for heavy classroom use. Like other reviewers said, it is made of plastic and while would be a whole lot cooler if it were made of higher quality materials, it's only $13...what do you want? I love that you don't need a plug or batteries - I just threw out our "big name" plug-in sharpener that was triple the price of this one because the motor died after about a dozen uses. At least I know the "motor" on this one will always work! Bottom line: it's quirky, fun to look at, neat to use, and fully functional. Just get it.

**Edit in 2022**. After 10+ years of use, this is still the best pencil sharpener ever! Very durable. I’d definitely buy this again! ******************************************* Honestly, I was going to return this until my toy/gadget loving husband inspected it and told me we had to keep it. It is very lightweight plastic and feels kinda cheap. At first, I didn't know how to work it, but after he figured it out, then we saw how well it works. Perfect point every time and you can adjust just how sharp you want it to be by playing with the little dial on the handle. I keep it away from my younger sons b/c I'm afraid they'll break it if it's used roughly, but I would buy it again. Works soooo much better than the battery-operated pencil sharpeners we've had in the past and I have NEVER seen any shavings falling out of the edges (which is very important to me!) I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. So far, we've had it 6 + months without breaking!

Originally, I bought this as props for my daughter’s school project. The looks met expectations and it is a quite decent item for that purpose at an acceptable price – not a detailed antique camera replica. However, it turned out that this somewhat peculiar device also has superb pencil sharpening properties. One wishes that the rails of pullout pane or the entire box were out of metal, but there are no apparent problems with functionality or performance. The five-step instructions on the outside of the box were entirely sufficient for a 5th grader to follow. Sharpening any conventional pencil is easy and quicker than with any finger-held device. All pencils turn out perfectly sharpened to the adjusted point level. Shavings are minimal and conserve the longevity of pencils. The price is very competitive making this camera sharpener a terrific value.

Using this makes me smile 😊 It’s got a good hand feel and weight about it

Esperaba este pequeño gadget con ilusión. He comprado otros productos de este fabricante y siempre me hán gustado. Lo recibí puntualmente. Era para hacer un regalito a una compañera. Hoy le he dado su regalito y he tenido una gran decepción. No funciona. No afila lápices :(

Purchased this funny little sharpener to sharpen some jumbo pencils I own, it does the work perfectly! The auto stop feature works well, and the auto feed is sturdy and does not make it cut at an angle like some other brands I've seen. Just the best solution if you have pencils that are too big for other sharpeners
