Does it have "sleep mode"?

YES! It has a sleep timer mode. I believe it's 1, 2 or 3 hours. And it does work cuz I've used the 1 & 2 hour options at night if I've waited too long turning the a.c. on. Hope that helps!

Do I need any tools to assemble this?

No tools needed. The stand fits together and is tightened with a plastic ring. The fan shield snaps together (the snap/hooks are awkward and don't fit snugly).

Can you open it to clean the fan blades?

Yes, front of blade cage can be removed for access to the blades. Fan works great has several speeds, oscillates, and cage can be moved toward ceiling or floor. It's lightweight and has wide base so it won't fall over. Pole also extends to raise or lower height. We live in SW FL, so extra moveable fan always comes in handy.

Does it have a remote control?

Yes, the one I purchased in Aug. 2018 has a remote. The remote has Power On/Off, can set to Low/Med/High and can set the sleep timer for 1,2 or 4 hrs.
