I bought this for a friend's Christmas present and didn't know what to expect until I saw it in person - and was dazzled. The entire box set with book is absolutely beautiful. He's since made a stand to display it and has been listening to the music non-stop. If you're a fan of Ella's, or think you might be and want to own a bigger collection of her music, this is it. You won't regret it. It comes with a tall hardcover book that gives beautiful images and history for every song and cd. I just need one for myself now!!

I bought this as a present. My brother loves Ella and was intrigued by the extensive liner notes, the breadth of the material covering here career is excellent. If you love Ella you can't do much better because it is pretty all-encompassingfrom beginning to end of her career. If you love Ella, you'll love this. If you like Ella you'll probably find you like her better than you thought. She was one of a kind.

She was one of a kind and this is an excellent compilation of her work. Anyone who is an Ella fan will want this set.

A wonderful compilation of Ella's recording career enhanced by beautiful packaging and a high quality illustrated biographical sketch of her life and career.

Crisp, warm sound on 10 beautifully mastered CDs. Excellent hard-back book; nicely illustrated, detailed annotations. This box oozes class. Highly recommended.

5 stars for the music, 10 CD's of remastered cross label Ella, must be the best collection available at present. An expensive collection housed in a medium size box with card CD covers and a very slim hard back book. Attractive, but this collection should have received a much more substantial book and while most CD collections use the card covers these days I am not a fan. Most quotes are creditted and the song credits are exhaustive but no authour is listed anywhere in the book, which is an issue, as I find the opening blurb disrespectful and absolutley worthless. Obviously the same team who compiled the book "Verve the sound of America" text by Richard Havers are also resposible for "The voice of Jazz" as text is repeated in both books.
