WAY too rough to give a smooth surface. This file would be good to shave down really long or acrylic nails but would have to be smoothed with a softer file.

My husband has quite a number of fungal toenails on both feet. We stopped going to the chiropodist as she charged a lot and did not seem to be filing them down properly, so I am now filing them down as much as possible once a week before applying Curanail antifungal liquid. As you can imagine it is hard work trying to file these hard nails, but this is the best file I have come across so far.

I needed an industrial strength nail file for toe nails,and this one is a fraction of the price of similar items in local pharmacies. It looks a bit scruffy and the diamond dust hasn't been scattered evenly on the surface,but it does a fine job and cleans easily by just rinsing under tap. So as long as you dont care too much about what it LOOKS like this is a good buy.
